Crowd Favourite To Leave Bolton

Diouf Wants Out
By Mark Heys April 1 2008
El-Hadji Diouf's four year stay at Bolton Wanderers appears to be coming to an end after the Senegal international confirmed that he would leave the club regardless of whether they manage to keep in the Premier League.

The 27-year old has been a big hit at Bolton since moving from Liverpool in the summer of 2004 but now the former African Player of the Year has stated that his future lies away from the Reebok Stadium.

Diouf has been headline news on and off the pitch since his arrival in English football nearly six years ago, but the bad press which seems to have followed him around has subsided somewhat in recent times.

Clubs from Italy and Spain are keen to recruit the forward who says his initial aim before the summer is to help Bolton remain in the top flight.

Speaking to L'Observateur, Diouf says he still holds Bolton in high regard for helping him resurrect his career after a disappointing spell at Liverpool but he feels now is the time is right to leave.

"If Bolton stay in the First Division or not, I will not stay next year for sure,” commented the outspoken front man

“Teams are interested in me; an agreement between three parties is the only thing missing and I will leave with serenity. Whether Bolton remain in the league or not, it is my last year. But it does not prevent me from respecting and admiring Bolton.

“For the moment, four or five clubs are very interested. They come to see me every weekend. I do not want to reveal their identity, I prefer to make a surprise of it and leave serenely when the moment has come.

“My priority is to stay in England. But Spanish and Italian clubs are following me. For the moment, I am concentrating on trying to do everything to prevent Bolton from being relegated. We are trying to get out of the relegation zone as quickly as possible.”

Atletico Madrid are one such team who has been linked with Diouf in the past and they could be in the market for a player of his quality as Jose Antonio Reyes continues to be touted for a move back to England.
