Bolton beat the transfer deadline with time to spare in order to land giant Polish striker Grzegorz Rasiak on loan from Southampton until the end of the 2007-08 season.

Rasiak had lost his place at St Mary's Stadium due to the form of international team mate Marek Sagonowski and Wanderers manager Gary Megson decided to give the Polish international another chance of top flight football.

Beginning his career with Warta Poznan in 1996, Rasiak went onto play for GKS Belchatow, Odra Wodzislaw and Dyskobolia Grodzisk in his homeland prior to linking up with Derby County in September 2004.

Derby had taken advantage of the fact that a move to Italian side Siena had hit complications and it proved to be a good piece of business for the Rams as Rasiak hit 18 goals in the Championship in his first season in English football.

In the summer transfer window of 2005 he was a surprise signing by Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur but he was unable to establish himself at White Hart Lane making just eight top flight appearances overall.

After just six months in London he joined Southampton, initially on loan, and after scoring four goals for the Saints in the early part of 2006 he made a permanent £2 million move to the South Coast.

Season 2006-07 saw him hit 21 goals in all competitions including braces in the games against Barnsley, Burnley, Leeds United, Hull City and Torquay United but the end of the campaign ended in disappointment for Southampton as they where pipped to the Play Off Final by Rasiak's former club Derby County.

The current campaign has seen him in and out of the Saints team although he did hit six goals from the first few weeks of the season but opportunities since have been scarse and he hopes the move to Bolton will give him more regular football.

A striker with good aerial ability and strength, the Wanderers hope Rasiak can regain his opportunism in front of goal.
