Campo - Goalscoring Hero
Campo and defender Joey O'Brien where both recalled to the side as manager Sammy Lee made changes from the line up which had grabbed a last gasp point in UEFA Cup action last week.
Spurs manager Martin Jol left out England international Jermain Defoe, with the striker not even travelling to the North West for the clash at the Reebok Stadium.
Both sides looked to play the simple passing game as opposed to the long ball tactics which Bolton used in their defeat at Birmingham last weekend and Campo's sublime vision nearly created a breakthrough after five minutes.
The former Real Madrid man picked up the ball in midfield before playing a delightful ball out wide right to Kevin Davies who in turn drove in a low cross which Spurs defender Michael Dawson knocked over the top for a corner.
Andy O'Brien was a commanding presence at the heart of the Wanderers defence throughout the game and he to be alert to clear Berbatov's right wing cross away from the lurking Keane.
On 18 minutes Tottenham's Finnish midfielder Teemu Tainio fired high and wide into the Family Stand leaving countryman Jussi Jaaskelainen untested.
Eight minutes later though Spurs came closer when Dimitar Berbatov's volley at the far post came crashing back off the left post of Jaaskelainen.
With just over ten minutes remaining in the half the visitors took the lead through their captain Keane. Didier Zokora chipped a ball into the Bolton penalty area and fellow midfielder Jermaine Jenas saw his initial effort blocked by Jaaskelainen from close range.
Unfortunately for the Trotters goalkeeper the ball rebounded out to Keane and his effort went in off the long serving custodian for the opening goal.
Five minutes later Campo evened up the scoreline with a powerful diagonal header past Spurs keeper Paul Robinson after El-Hadji Diouf had delivered a pinpoint free kick from the right.
Bolton had a couple of penalty appeals turned away by referee Andre Marriner during the game. The first came in the opening half when Nicolas Anelka was bundled over by Ricardo Rocha and Robinson in the area and the second came straight after the interval when Kevin Davies was felled by his marker Dawson.
Mr Marriner saw nothing in either challenge to warrant a penalty and Bolton where denied a second goal, much to the annoyance of the majority of the 20,000 plus crowd which had shown their faces.
On 53 minutes Tainio tried his luck from just outside the area and it nearly paid dividens for the Tottenham man as his effort nearly crept into the bottom corner of Jaaskelainen's goal.
Steed Malbranque had a busy day down the left wing for Spurs, with the ex-Fulham favourite looking to capitalise on the lack of match practice for Bolton full back Joey O'Brien who was making his first full appearance since May 2006.
Malbranque, a target of Bolton prior to his move to Martin Jol's side, nearly got on the scoresheet when his volley from Jaaskelainen's punch just went over the bar.
The hosts themselves also had chances with the game evenly poised in the final half hour. Anelka rose in the penalty area in an attempt to nod home a flick on by strike partner Davies but the Frenchman could not get any power or accuracy on his effort to test Robinson.
Then it was Davies himself who headed straight into the arms of the England number one after Campo had lofted in a trademark free kick.
Spurs looked the more likely to win the game in the final ten minutes but the Wanderers held on well and had Jaaskelainen to thank for pulling off a stunning save from Keane four minutes from normal time
Bolton are now back on the road for the next two matches. Firstly they go back down to Fulham to compete in the Third Round of the Carling Cup and then they take on fellow strugglers Derby County at Pride Park.
