VILLA AND FULHAM PLAY OUT GOALLESS DRAW
By Ryan Ghee March 26 2006
Aston Villa and Fulham played out a drab goalless draw at Villa Park yesterday afternoon as the visitors earned their first away point in almost four months.
The match as a whole was largely uneventful as Villa rarely looked like adding to their poor tally of 15 home goals this season and Fulham seemed content to sit back and win a rare away point.

Villa definately had the better of the first half exchanges as Lee Hendrie, Gavin McCann and Gareth Barry threatened Mark Crossley's goal.

Hendrie's volley flew over the bar while Gavin McCann was denied by Zat Knight after a goal-mouth scramble. The ball then fell to Barry who almost broke the deadlock, only to be denied by Volz who threw his body in the way of the goal-bound drive.

The second half was a more open affair but clear chances still proved to be few and far between.

Fulham's Steed Malbranque drilled an effort wide of Sorensen's left-hand post just after the restart and Villa's Davis was denied by Crossley at the other end.

As the game drew to close, Fulham started to impose themselves more strongly but with Malbranque wasting the last chance of the afternoon, the two sides were left to share the spoils of a rather poor match.
