Babbel To Stay Put
By Craig McWalter
March 7 2003
Defender Markus Babbel has denied rumours he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. Read On For Full Story.
Babbel who was sidelined for more than a year suffering from the neural disorder Guillan Barre Syndrome, said: "I have over three years left on my contract and I have not wasted a split second on the idea of leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"As far as I know the club want me to stay on. They told me I will be given all the time I need to get fully fit again."

The 30-year-old defender is rumoured to have fallen out with Boss Gerard Houllier and been kept in the reserve team because of the conflict with the Frenchman.

But Babbel said: "It is true I'm currently playing on the reserve team but that is only because I'm lacking match practice. And this is the best way to get it back. My relationship with our coach is absolutely in order."
