Chester revisit Mcleod interest
By Chris Thompson March 15 2006
Mark Wright has lodged a bid to take Swansea winger Kevin Mcleod on loan. Wright has also made an attempt to sign a Manchester City youngster.
It will not be the first time Chester have been involved in a move to bring Mcleod to Chester. During Ian Rush's short tenure, Stephen Vaughan funded an ambitious £125,000 offer for the (then) QPR left winger. After deciding against a move closer to his Merseyside background, he moved to Swansea for half the money offered by Chester, and a promising start was not followed by consistency on and off the field.

Swansea manager, Kenny Jackett, cited, "Unfortunately over the last few months his application has not matched his ability.

"His name has been circulated to other clubs informing them that he is available for transfer and we are prepared to listen to offers.

"There's no one particular thing that Kevin's being transfer listed for - he's not been in any kind of trouble and he's not facing any kind of internal discipline.

"He's being placed on the transfer list for a build up of things over a period of time. Kevin has gone on the transfer list and the reason is that while I have seen plenty of ability, I have not seen enough application from him.

"It might be time for him to move on to pastures new. It's a shame because if his application matched his ability, he would be one hell of a player.

"He's been put on the list and we'll see what develops before the March 23 (transfer) deadline. Kevin genuinely has a hamstring problem which might take a week or two to clear up."

Mcleod has other ideas. Despite Chester's interest, he turned down their offer last year in favour of staying at QPR, and is eager to stay at Swansea to prove his ability this time around. "I feel I've been unfairly done by. I wish I hadn't gone out, but it feels like the gaffer is using me as an example and I think that's wrong.

"I was out Saturday night because I was injured. I shouldn't go out full stop, but I've had a lot of things on my mind and a lot of frustration. I'm now suffering the consequences, but I've got to see if I can come back from this.

"I've made a mistake, I realise that and I hold my hands up.

"I don't want to leave Swansea City - I want to stay and help get the club into the Championship - and I hope this will only be a kick up the backside for me.

"I apologise to everyone around me and I apologise to everyone at the club.

"I'm seeing the manager on Thursday and I'll apologise to him and the chairman. I will try my hardest to get fitter again and to do well for the club.

"I'm really downhearted about what's happened."

So, if Chester can tame the winger (and if he can be convinced his future is actually probably away from the Welsh League 2 side), and if he is simply not a more expensive edition of Ashley Sestanovich, Mcleod has the potential to be a real quality addition to the team. Mark Wright concluded, "We are aware of the availability of Kevin McLeod and we would be keen to bring him in, an approach has been made so we will just have to wait for developments,"

Mark Wright has been busy in the transfer market. After complaining about of the lack of width in the Chester side, he has tabled offers for Man City youngster Ishmael Miller and Peterborough winger Ryan Semple, as he hopes to turn around Chester's dramatic reversal of form.

Because of wage cappings imposed by the Football League, Wright has been informed by the chairman he must sell players in order to vacate places in the squad. 'Keeper Stephane Gillet was released last week, and Craig Dove, Luke Dimech, Abdul El Kholti, Tom Curle and Marcus Richardson have been made available to other clubs. Chester have already received lots of interst for atleast two players, who may be out of the club by the end of the week.
