Failing to make the cut
By Chris Thompson January 26 2006
Keith Curle, why am I reading that three more players have been allowed to leave?! Arghh, this squad is getting smaller by the day!
Well there's no doubt that the ability of summer signings Craig Dove and Abdul El Kholti were quite up to scratch with what was required from a high flying Chester City, and defender Shaun Hessey - one of the remaing signings of Mark Wright - has joined them on the transfer list. Following Phil Bolland leaving to join Peterborough - where Wright has recently been suspended for alledged racial abuse (where have I heard that before?)- Chester are left with no more than two recognised central defenders, having added the more attack minded duo of Derik Assamoah and Wayne Corden to the ranks on loan, and only goalkeeper Stephan Gillet to compliment them in the 'players in' category this January. Chester have a remarkably small squad which has proved an inability to keep up with the Jones' having lost many key players to injury and suspension this busy Xmas period. So Keith Curle, please play your secret card soon, or we may just be back in pre-Mansfield-Town trouble again...
