Canvey Island 1-0 Scarborough
By Islandersfootball
April 16 2005
Canvey Island today secured their hopes of a second season in the conference after a hard working 1-0 victory over Scarborough. Lee Boylan was the Canvey Island scorer, scoring after only fourh minutes.
Canvey Island this afternoon managed to secure themselves of conference survival due to their superior goal difference thanks to a win at home to midtable Scarborough. Canvey Island took the lead early on after Lee Boylan cleverly chipped the goalkeeper on the half volley after just 4 minutes. Canvey also had very good periods for the next ten minutes. Eventually Scarborough got mor and more into the match and had numerous oppournities to shoot at goal all ending in good crosses with bad results.

At half time a lucky steward was awarded a signed Lee Boylan shirt and a signed ball. All of which was the prize of the end of season raffle.

In the second half the Gulls started off well again having a McGhee header hit the bar and the resulting play ended up in scuffle trying to get the ball in the back of the net which all failed. Scarborough again tried to play some football and had a few chances in the second half, but in the end the Canvey back line was clearly too strong for the Scarborough forwards as Canvey walked out with 3 points and the knowing fact that they will be wearing the Nationwide Conference badge next season.

At the end of the day it was obvious to see which side needed the win more. A deserved 1-0 win to the Yellow army.

The next two games are Home to York and Away to Forest Green both games that we are most capable of winning. The target for the Gulls know is to try and get 44 points for our efforts and to get ready for the next season to come.
