We can beat Italy
By Hugh Jass
September 3 2005
Christian Dailly believes that Scotland can pull off a shock against Italy, despite not having two of their best strikers!!!!!!!

Dailly believes too much of the pre-match focus to the crunch World Cup qualifier has been on the loss of Garry O'Connor and Lee McCulloch.

"People talk about goals, goals, goals but the important thing is to win the game," said Dailly.

"If we win 1-0 and it's an own goal we will take it.

"This is as hard a team as I have played against in my international career so far.

"But I am optimistic - I have never been anything else, especially going into qualifying games.

"In any qualifying game I've been involved in I have been sure about getting something out of the game and I feel the same about tomorrow."

Scotland know that they have to get something from the qualifier, despite the quality of their opponents.

"I'm excited about this game," added Dailly. "It's going to be great to play in and there will be a tremendous atmosphere.

"Everybody will have to be at their best to get something out of the game but I'm optimistic about it.

"I know Italy are a great side with some great players but we have probably the strongest squad since Walter (Smith) took over.

"I think we definitely have to take something from the Italy game.

"If we want to go to the World Cup we need to get at least four points.

"Obviously the best way to do that is to start off with a win tomorrow.

"It will be tough but we are not scared of it. We have got some good players and they are quite capable of keeping the ball."
