Merse return not ruled out
By WS10 February 17 2006
A BBC Interview with Paul Merson and Jeff Bonser has brought about some interesting news. Neither party was willing to rule out a playing return for the former boss.
It may have been a case of the Reporter putting both men on the spot, but it's quite clear that Jeff Bonser, like most people who have worked alongside Paul Merson are in no doubt that he can still do a job as a player.

The focus of the BBC Report was about the Virtual Soccer Academy game. However, it's the failure of both parties to rule out a return that is sure to arouse the interest of fans.

It wouldn't be the first time something like this has happend. Former Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler played on after relinquishing his managerial duties.

A return would contradict a Merson interview earlier in the week, when he more or less said that a playing return was on the back burner because of other interests.

This may rest upon who the new manager, or it may just be a case of two friends being polite and respectful when put on the spot.
