By Hippofan

We all know Walsall is the home of excellence. So our new feature is dedicated to those to have emerged from our great town and gone on to greatness (or some form of notoriety)
New Page 1

This week we look at John Byrne – A giant within the realms of Comic Book History. John Byrne is one of the most revered comic book writers around and is most famous for reviving the Superman franchise in the 1980s.

Yes, we’re not lying. It’s a little known fact that this “cult hero” hailed from our great town. Byrne left Walsall when he was 8 years old to head Stateside, the place that nurtured his interest in Comics.

Byrne made his name working on the Fantastic Four, but soon moved on to work on other big stories like The Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Batman and Captain America.

Anyone who knows there comic books will tell you that Byrne is one of the best around, and the kind of guy the average Walsillian should be immensely proud of.

Google his name and you'll soon find him to be an interesting character. Not a man to hold back his views in the Comic Book World. Some might call him a bit controversial.

The recent boom in Superhero movies has given his work a new lease of life and given the high profile of this genre, Byrne can take large chunk of credit for it's development.

Has he heard of the Saddlers? We sincerely doubt it. This has Zilch to do with  the Football Club, but it does give the town another reason to proud of it's self (other than the Football club ;-)
