Hotel Plans Backed ! Plans
for a 100 room hotel on the Bescot Stadium site have been
backed by the Councils District Committee. The
Plans will now go to the councils main Planning Committee with
the recommendation that it should approved. The club had been
worried that a group of councilors concerned about it competing
with the Wharf Development would scupper the plans. The
idea behind the opposition is that the town would not benefit
from having hotels at both Bescot, and the Wharf
Development. Jeff
Bonser told the official site that "there are so many benefits.
It will create up to 100 jobs in an area of high unemployment,
extra money will be bought in to the town and and club and it
will also enhance the excellent and established facilities
that are already here" It
is not a new idea, and has been around for a long while The
club plan to spend about £3m on on the development, with the
costs being shared between us and a developer. More of
what Bonser said can be found here. Councilor
Dennis Anson told the Express and Star that "surely a
town of a quarter of a million people can sustain and support
a few hotels". With our location and conferencing
facilities a hotel at the Stadium is sure to be a success. There
is still another hurdle to jump, but things are looking good. |
