League 1 Review
League leaders Luton Town failed to take advantage of going ahead in controversial circumstances at the Galpharm Stadium, as loan signing Luke Beckett popped up with a fantastic 93rd minute equaliser for the Terriers. Beckett latched onto a knockdown by his striker partner Andy Booth to hit a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper to send the Town fans who hadnt left the stadium, into absolute ecstasy. It was just reward after pressuring Luton after they scored a lucky goal from Ahmet Brkovic in the 1st half.
Meanwhile 2nd placed Hull City failed to take advantage of Luton's late slip-up by only getting a 1-1 against play-off contenders Bristol City. Nick Barmby gave Hull a deserved lead, before Leroy Lita equalised 14 minutes from time for City.
There was controversy at Valley Parade as Bradford City and Tranmere Rovers also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Canadian Iain Hume scored within a minute to give the visitors the lead, with Dean Windass equalising towards the end. With 10 minutes to go, Gareth Roberts was mistakenly shown the red card by referee Paul Danson after it was assumed it was he who had commited a professional foul.
In the South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell, Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0, with not many chances.
Hartlepool United moved up into play-off contention after a good 1-0 win over mid-table Chesterfield, Adam Boyd scoring the winner after 55 minutes. A late Stephen Hunt penalty gave play-off hopefuls Brentford a 1-0 win over a struggling MK Dons side who remained rooted in the relegation zone.
Swindon Town staged a good comeback away at Oldham to record a fine win. Oldham took the lead after 14 minutes through loanee Kenny Cooper, but 2 goals in a 10 minute spell from Sam Parkin and Grant Smith sealed the win for Andy King's Wiltshire side.
Bournemouth missed out on the chance to close the gap to the play-offs after a disappointing defeat against lowly Port Vale. Having taken the lead early on, they failed to hold on for the 3 points, the winner coming 11 minutes before the break from Chris Birchall.
Torquay United gave their hopes of survival a big boost after a good win against a Doncaster Rovers side who seemed jaded after a long journey to Devon. Torquay went in at the break 2-0 ahead after 2 goals in the opening 20 minutes, with Doncaster only having a late consolation goal to show for their efforts.
Walsall played out a 2-2 draw against struggling Wrexham in an entertaining game at the Bescot Stadium, with quality goals throughout the game.
Finally, Peterborough United secured a crucial 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Stockport County. After taking the lead, the Posh were pulled back to 1-1 just after the break, but a goal by Richard Logan on the hour mark secured an important 3 points for Barry Fry's team to give them hope of escaping the relegation zone.
