Looking ahead to Darlington V Chester
By Chris Thompson
April 1 2005
Chester travel to the 25, 000-seater Williamson Motors Stadium for the first time tomorrow in search of three more points to almost guarantee their place in League football for another season
Chester travel to eighth place Darlington on Saturday hoping to continue on their on their recent impressive form. The blues have taken 7 points from a possible 9 in games against Bury, Mansfield and Notts County, and a win at the new 25, 000-seater Williamson Motors Stadium would almost guarantee the club membership in League 2 for another year.
Chester are only without two players for the encounter, which will be the first time Chester have visited the new stadium, as well as a reunion between old Anfield team-mates Ian Rush and Dave Hodgson.
In goal, Wayne Brown must wait for a shoulder injury to subside before he finds himself in between the posts again, which is likely to rule him out against Darlington, as it did against Bury on Monday. Chester can fortunately call on an able replacement in Chris McKenzie, who will be eager seize the opportunity to impress boss Ian Rush amidst the expected summer arrival of Paul Harrison, which is expected to bring about the departure of one of the ‘Keepers.
Chester’s only other absentee is striker Kevin Rapley, who has joined youngster Danny Ventre on loan at Droylsden until the end of the season.

On a good note, Chester welcome back Stephen Vaughan, who captained the reserves midweek for a whole 90 minutes, and returns to the squad as rival to Darren Edmondson and Carl Regan for the place at right-back. Ian Rush may wish to employ him in a midfield role, although he is likely to start on the bench.

Chester (probable)
(G) Chris McKenzie, (D) Phil Bolland, Richard Hope, Darren Edmondson, Andy Nicholls (M) Stewart Drummond, Paul Carden, Ben Davies, Ryan Lowe (F) Michael Branch, Robbie Foy
(Sub) Stephen Vaughan, Michael Brown, Carl Regan, Ashley Sestanovich, Joe O’ Neil.
