Chester City have spent the last few days forging a link with the Thailand FA. The move has been sponsored by Chang, the sponsors of Everton, and will see two trialists enrol at the club to be watched by Ian Rush and his management team. The two players hoping to make an impression are Sompong Soleb, an 18-year-old striker who has represented his country at under-20 level, and 19-year-old midfielder Nattapol Plyabatiskul
Both were present at Moss Rose to witness a Macclesfield second-string defeat Chester reserves in midweek, as well as at the dour home victory on Easter Monday against Bury.
A delighted Stephen Vaughan was in an optimistic mood as he unveiled his latest scheme to the press, which would undoubtedly see the club form a strong and promising relationship with the Thai FA, and open many new doors for the club in the future.
Said Stephen Vaughan, "The two lads and a representative from the Thailand FA were guests at Monday's home game against Bury, and I think they liked what they saw. We will offer the two youngsters our usual hospitality, and they can also train with us. We will have a look at them, and obviously their national association will be looking at us."
He added: "There is a possibility we can come to an arrangement with the Thai FA. They are anxious to place their younger players with English clubs, so they can benefit from our excellent training methods, and we can take on players who we consider can make it in the Football League. It is extremely exciting."
According to yesterday’s Daily Mail, Fulham are also undergoing a similar scheme.
