Billy Davies arrived at Deepdale in the Summer of 2002 were he was appointed First Team Coach by Craig Brown. After the departure of Craig Brown in August 2004 Davies was named Caretaker manager, were he enjoyed a successful spell and was later appointed Prestons new manager.
Before his time at Deepdale, Davies was manager at Scottish Premier League side Motherwell were he was one of the youngest to manage at top flight Scottish football, and took his side to the brink of European football. During his time at Motherwell he won the Manager of the Month award three times, and was responsible for developing the talents of players such as Celtic's Stephen Pearson and one time Preston target James McFadden.
Before starting his managerial career Davies enjoyed a playing career spanning 20 years in which he made over 300 apperances, scoring 26 goals in not only Scottish football but in English and European football were he played for Swedish side IF Elsborg.
