Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed striker Jeremie Aliadiere is not suffering from another hamstring strain. The former Arsenal forward was out with a hamstring complaint for over a month before returning to the Boro side in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester United

and the signs were not good when Southgate replaced the Frenchman soon after half-time with what looked like a similar problem.

But the former England centre-half told the club's website "He just had cramp.

"We were very conscious with him having been out for six weeks, we knew he wouldn't last 90 minutes.

"We hoped he could give us an hour and we got 55 minutes out of him."

Aliadiere scored his first goal for the club in the game.

Southgate said: "He needed that first goal for us because he has been torturing defences without getting the reward he deserves."
