Dundee United 1-0 Motherwell
By Chucky March 27 2004
Motherwell travelled up to Tannadice to face an inform Dundee United side who are on a great run having not lost at Tannadice since November.

Both sides played mid-week with United winning away at Livingston and ‘Well drawing 3-3 with Hibs.

The only change in the ‘Well side was Jason Dair came into the midfield for the injured Derek Adams. Hammell and Corrigan were both fit after taking knocks against Hibs on Wednesday night. It was United who started the quickest making Marshall in the ‘Well goal make a few easy saves. We always looked as if we were trying to hit them on the break and created a few chances which we might have stuck away on another day. Scott McDonald probably had our best effort in the first half with a shot from close range just rolling wide of the post.

Motherwell were easily the better team in the second half despite losing by the one goal to nil. Scott McDonald and Jason Dair both had chances but couldn’t get past United keeper Paul Gallacher. United then scored the only goal of the game on the 65th minute after a pretty weak shot from Barry Robson which Marshall in the ‘Well goal failed to hold and Jason Scotland the United substitute was first to react as he finished from only a few yards out.

Motherwell had to go for it and created a great chance from a short corner when a Shaun Fagen effort was tipped onto the bar from Paul Gallacher. The home side managed to hold on and the match was over - 1-0 United.

Overall a draw would have been a fair result but we now sit in 6th in the league but have a game in hand. A stop six finish is still on for the ‘Well and we will look to push for it with a game against Rangers next Sunday.
