By Andy Leggott

Richard Dunne can celebrate with an orange juice this evening after talks with City and the PFA saved his City career. Instead of the sack Dunne will be expected to attend a specialist training course.

Dunney escapes sack

Richard Dunne has been handed a Manchester City reprieve thanks to the PFA.

Dunne, who was facing the sack, has agreed to attend a “specialist training programme” after discussions with the club and the PFA. It is not known whether the course deals with Dunne’s problems with alcohol or his general attitude.

Dunne can count himself lucky after the club disclosed that he had turned up for Saturday morning training in a “dishevelled state”.

It is thought that this course represents a last chance saloon for the Irishman and Kevin Keegan will expect his loyalty to the player to be paid back in spades.
