A case for the defence? After City's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, a few eyebrows were raised. When I say a few.... I mean an entire fan base for a particular club. Although I am proud of our performance on Tuesday, I cannot help wondering if our defenders can actually....... you know......... DEFEND.The lack of pace in our back 3 is regularly highlighted, with only Distin with notable acceleration. I think that Sun and Howey are both fine defenders, and can only see bright things for Sun in particular, but if we have a lack of pace at the back we have to compensate for that with positioning skills. Think Bobby Moore. Now if we had that positioning skill we would be fine. But unfortunately we do not, and to add insult to injury we continue to give away goals due to poor positioning. Arsenal highlighted this fact perfectly, with their sublime passing and their own positioning skills of their midfield and forwards (much like City's). Maybe our defence need to work together more often and they will gel, or maybe that they need to work on their positioning in training; and so on and forth. There is the possibility of a change at the back. A formation change? Personally, I cannot see that happening. But maybe a new face at the back? If there is there wont be for quite a while thanks to the transfer window. So what will happen, there definitely needs to be some improvement. Or else we will continue to lose matches. You never know with City...... and that’s why we're all die hard blues. City Till I Die |
