March 2005

March…not the best of months. The snow starts disappearing and is replaced with rain, we lose an hour of our lives as the clocks go forward, and we lost to Sheffield Wednesday.

Not a good month in my opinion. We only won 1 game and drew far too many, failed to get Feeney, dressing room busts up…Not great.

The Wednesday match was a great opportunity to get into the playoffs, beat our local neighbours and also, get revenge for the 4-0 hammering we took at home.

We lost 2-0. Although we didn’t get hammered, we didn’t play well and it was a bad way to start the month off.

The, we hosted Brentford who I for one was disappointed to draw against as we seemed to get further and further away from the playoffs. After the draw, Penney announced are playoff hopes were over.

Some people thought Penney had jumped the gun but most people agreed it was over when we drew with the Seasiders 1-1, extending our run of 4 games without a win.

Then started the Feeney business. I made my thoughts clear in many other columns that Feeney would have been great and we we’re unlucky.

We proceed to draw against Bradford next. 5 games without a win. If we’d have beaten all those teams that we drew against where we really should have won, we could have been playing Championship football next season.

Now Michael McIndoe was on the bench for the Bradford game and rumours of a row between Penney and McIndoe supposedly caused McIndoe to storm off but any ruckus in the dressing room seems to have been resolved.

But just when things looked like they couldn’t get any worse, we beat Tranmere Rovers. 3rd placed Tranmere Rovers in a thrilling 4-2 encounter. The highlight for me was our fans coming up with the chant “Where’s your Dadi gone” after Eugene Dadi got sent off for hitting Doolan.

Everyone seemed to think we could reach the playoffs again now but a 1-1 draw with Colchester on the 1st April ended everyones hopes.

Oh well…Next season…
