An Interview with…A Colchester fan
By Nick Raynor
March 31 2005
Colchester fan Ben answers some questions for us ahead of Doncaster’s match against Colchester this weekend.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself; Name, age, how long a fan of your club etc…
My name is Ben. I am 15 years old. I have been supporting Colchester United for around 4/5 years.

2. What was the first football match you went to and what was the score?
I can’t remember the first match I went to – I have a poor memory but I think I’ll have been about 8 or 9 years old. Probably in the 98/99 season.

3. What is the best and worst match you have attended?
The best match I have attended was Southampton away in the carling cup. IT was a brilliant atmosphere and our home gate was there! It was a real party atmosphere and we almost won!

The worst match I have attended was Southend (our bitter rivals) away in the LDV semi-finals because they won and got to go to Cardiff.

4. Where do you expect to finish this season?
I expect us to finish in mid-table around 15th.

5. Where do you think Doncaster will finish?
I think Doncaster will finish 8th missing out on the play off places.

6. How did you do last season?
We did pretty well last season finishing in 11th with some good cup runs.

7. Who is the player Doncaster should watch out for when we play you?
Neil Danns - Plays in the centre of midfield, creates a lot of chances and scores quiet a few.

8. Whose the Doncaster player you think you should watch out for?
I'm not too sure...but I've heard Michael McIndoe is a good winger.

9. What's your team like? Strong areas/players, weak areas/players,
manager + backroom staff etc…..

Strong areas of our team are in the defence (2nd best defence in the league) and midfield because we have some excellent players playing in centre midfield and we've recently brought in Marc Goodfellow on loan who is a pacey left winger. We also have a few good players coming back from injury in midfield which will boost the squad and give us more options.

The weak area is up front after selling both our main strikers (Wayne Andrew to Crystal Palace) near the beginning of the season and Craig Fagan (recently sold to Hull) so Phil Parkinson has brought in Marino Keith and on-loan striker Ryan Jarvis. We also have Greg Halford who has been playing up front recently but we needed more strikers to boost that position.

10.  Make a prediction for when Doncaster play you
I think this will be a tough game compared to the last time we played you at
Layer Road. I think it will be a well fought 2-2 draw.

What do you predict for the match? Is Ben right or will Doncaster run out as winners? Give you thoughts and opinions on the message board
