Nick’s Thoughts: #4 I Was Wrong
By Nick Raynor
March 29 2005
Nick gives his views on Doncaster’s playoff hopes saying that he thinks he was wrong about counting Doncaster out.

I last said that it was too late to reach the playoffs. I said this after we lost 2-0 to the Wendies and then we drew 3 games. But it isn’t over yet…

But after the win at Tranmere yesterday we still have hopes of reaching the playoffs. Although some teams have a game in hand, we are only 3 points off 6th at the moment and I doubt Swindon, Brentford and Bournemouth will all win.

It won’t be easy, but to get there we will simply have to win our remaining 6 games without defeat…and they won’t be easy.

We host Chesterfield on Friday night which, at this crucial stage, we should win as they are down in 14th but we should keep an eye on them as they drew with Tranmere recently in a gutsy effort.

Huddersfield away we should win if we perform our best but local derbies can go anyway despite where clubs are in the league.

The  an important but difficult game at home to 5th placed Hartlepool where we will need to pull something special out of the hat like we did against Tranmere.

IF we can beat Hartlepool then unless there is a major cock-up, we should beat Bristol City comfortably.

And then if by some miracle we have won all these matches and are in a position on the last day where we could reach the playoff’s we have the biggest challenge yet against top of the league Luton Town.

With any luck, they may have won the league already and field a weaker squad but if the don’t we are going to hope they play bad and we play amazing and just hope for something special.

But the play-offs are NOT out of reach yet…not just yet.

Is Nick wrong? Are we out of the play-off race now? Give your thoughts and opinions HERE on the message board
