Rovers lost 4-0 at home to the Owls earlier on in the season and were looking to avenge that defeat and while it was not as humiliating, they still crashed in their efforts.
It was the home team who started off best when a cross from Chris Blunt found McGovern on the edge of the box but
Graham Lee was next to have a go for Wednesday on 13 minutes as he shot from outside the box but he sent it over the bar.
The first real threat from either team was on 24 minutes.
It looked like it was going to be equal at the break after Andy Warrington saved Lee’s effort but just as the referee brought the whistle to his lips, Lee Bullen caused heartbreak for Rovers as he headed into the bottom-right corner from 5 yards.
Peacock and Blunt both missed chances to give the game to Wednesday and Rovers hopes were lifted when Lewis Guy made his debut, coming on for the injured Neil Roberts.
Wednesday realised the only way to defend was to attack, McGovern and Heckingbottom both having half-decent efforts.
Then new boy, Lewis Guy somehow managed to agonizingly miss from just 6 yards out.
It was all over thought for Rovers on 78 minutes when Chris Blunt crossed for Andy Talbot to head across goal into the bottom left corner.
Penney immediately threw Mulligan and Green on to try and salvage a point but to no avail.
FINAL SCORE: 2-0
