Penney is a genius. 

True, just yesterday in my month review I said he had made a mistake returning Simon Johnson and loaning Andy Campbell – but that is all in the past. 

We have signed Guy…and I am thrilled. 

Now I have followed Guy and seen him in action before as I keep my eye on what is happening in Newcastle and he is one for the future. 

Anybody who saw him for the reserves or read about it will know that he shone on his debut for the reserves. Just ONE match it has taken and Penney snapped him up. 

2 goals for Rovers, both from Guy. Skinning the defence and keeper alike throughout the match and setting up team-mates (who couldn’t finish) – He was awesome. 

At the young age of 20, he is one for the future, and will give Blundell and Johnson some real competition. He played at U-18 level for England and it’s about time he got his chance somewhere. 

He has been held back by the quality and depth of strikers at Newcastle but now he has his chance, and I am sure, he will grab it with both hands, and push Rovers towards promotion.
