Doncaster 2 – 0 Port Vale
By Nick Raynor
January 18 2005
Doncaster emerged from today’s game as 2-0 winners despite the difficult gale-like conditions.

Dave Penney will have been unhappy at his team’s first half performance as Port Vale dominated.

Reserve-Goalkeeper Stuart Jones made a great save from Ryan Brown’s powerful effort after 19 minutes.

Michael Cummins proceeded to miss a glorious chance for the visitors a minute later and Vale were made to regret that when Tim Ryan, back from suspension, hit a spectacular shot from 20-yards on the stroke of half-time to give Rovers the lead at the break.

It was Doncaster’s turn to dominate in the second half and on 56th minutes, on-loan stirker, Simon Johnson was unlucky not to score as his dipping shot hit the crossbar.

Vale hit back on 78 minutes when substitute Simon Eldershaw went close for the equaliser but couldn’t manage to score.

Paul Green sealed all 3 points for Rovers in stoppage time with a cheeky back heel after a cross from the right hand side.

Final Score: 2-0
