Rovers Thrashed
By Nick Raynor
December 28 2004
Doncaster Rovers lost 4-0 to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Over 10,000 turned up to Belle Vue to watch as Steven MacLean grabbed a hat-trick for Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a tough derby with each team picking up 3 books, Sheffield Wednesday commiting 25 fouls in the game.

Sheffield showed bouncebackability after losing their 2 previous games and the first of their 4 goals came after just 9 minutes when Bullen passed from the right to MacLean whose shot from the edge of the area found the net.

Kenwyne Jones scored on his debut on 22 minutes after a terrible blunder by keeper Andy Warrington as he came to knock it clear and miss kicked it leaving Jones with an empty net to double the Wendies lead.

Jones then turned provider as he crossed into the box for MacLean to tap in from 6-yards on the hour.

MacLean rubbed salt in the wounds of Doncaster by sealing his hat-trick 14 minutes from time this time heading home from close range.

Doncaster will feel hard done by with the result as possession was nearly equal and Doncaster mustered more chances in the game.
