From day one of Rafa’s reign at Anfield elements of the media have taken a negative view of his every move. Whether it be rotation, zonal marking or his choice of recruits, they seem to take pleasure in ridiculing him.

From day one of Rafa’s reign at Anfield elements of the media have taken a negative view of his every move. Whether it be rotation, zonal marking or his choice of recruits, they seem to take pleasure in ridiculing him.
They have knitted a web of half truths and lies that people who care not to question them have adopted as a mantra that threatens to drive our manager, Rafael Benitez, out of the country. All of these half truths and lies can be shot down in flames when exposed to the facts of his six year tenure, but too many choose to ignore them.
What intrigues me is why?
Why do certain other managers who have spent more, but achieved far less, not get attacked at all by the media? One difference stands out, they be British. Is it simply a case of Rafa being an outsider? Surely not! All those media"experts" must know their football.
Surely they wouldn't openly rip a mans professional reputation to shreds purely on the fact that he's a foreigner? Why am I not surprised Juventus have openly declared their admiration of our manager?
So that's Real Madrid and Juventus, two of the most famous football institutions in world football, covet our manager. What do they know? Andy Gray thinks he's just a "Fat Spanish Waiter" so it must be true.

I have to say that I sometimes see Benitez getting questioned after matches (sometimes when pool have lost or drawn and were quite unlucky) and the person asking the questions asks him really scolding rhetorical questions, and they can sometimes be really personal and unfair. That's why I find it hard not to feel sorry for him. I think he gets a really hard deal from the press; one that no other manager would tolerate. I think he should bite back and do what man utd does and exclude people from press conferences or just say he won't speak to sky ever again. They'll come crawling back I have no doubt.

Jealousy comes to mind.I hope we hang on to rafa for another 10 yrs,theres no-one better and i mean no one.Hes had to deal with a lot of@#$%&n his time at anfield,any lesser of a man would have choked,i admire him greatly.

I for one think Rafa's (auto)biography is going to be one of the best football related books ever published. There is so much he has both done and put up with behind the scenes at Anfield that I think people will be forced to re-evaluate their opinion of the man once it is factored into his managerial career at Liverpool. Whether he leaves Anfield before next season or not, he owes Liverpool nothing and any sensible/realistic/knowledgeable Liverpool fan realises that.

I personally can't believe the xenophobic nature of Rafa's treatment. Geordietoon being a prime example.
Benitez has done wonders at Liverpool and has had to deal with adversity since his arrival but still acheived good things in spite of this!
The manager is currently being slated for our position in the league which is at present 5th. However if you look at the successful teams (in the eyes of the media) around him (Spurs, Man City and Aston Villa) what have any of those teams achieved over the same period with far greater resources? if Liverpool would have acted like a big club over Rafa's reign then I know he would have won the league by now. Instead he's worked wonders wheeling and dealing on what amounts to a shoestring budget in comparison to the ManU's, City's and Chelsea's of the world.
My issue is with David Moores not Rafa! Moores sold us down the river to 2 Anglo American cowboy's for extra pieces of silver when placed to sell to a money rich group from Dubai (DIC). This underhanded and despicable sale along with the media's attitude and in turn the fans attitude shows just how xenophobic the English are. Not just in football terms but as a culture.
KICK IT OUT!!!

AW used to suffer from this type of xenophobic treatment when he was first recruited. I think that because he won the title these insults gradually went away. If liverpool wins the premier league it may force many to re-evaluate the way they look at Benitez, indeed pre-season after the run of pool at the close of last season many tipped liverpool to be champions this season.
I do take the point about other manager not getting anywhere near as bad a press as benitez though. The robbie keane thing is a case in point were every time he was not selected it became a circus and the robbie keane show. Yet he never plays for the ****** Spuds and never a bad word is said against old harry the media darling. Bad double standards.

Rafa is a "great" manager, his life time track record (win ratio) is the same as Gerard Houlliers track record!
Strong and proud, you want the yanks out, go home at half time, no matter what the score, the players will understand, do it until they sell, and hopefully they take Rafa with them.
