L.F.C. Our D Day
By John Christie
June 8 2009
After twelve months in ownership of our club its American owners showed their true colours and executed the one thing that they had sworn never to do. In putting all their borrowed debt against the club, we all knew the perilous position we were then in. To them it was good business; to us it was Russian roulette with the loaded gun at OUR heads, not theirs.
Despite the boardroom backstabbing and treachery, Rafa has made progress over the last years. We know other parties are interested in the club, but not at the silly price the Yanks want purely to line their own pockets.

The Yanks know too well we are a golden cash cow in waiting, as soon as the stadium is built rich pickings are to be had. The credit crunch has pulled the carpet from beneath them, but they are hanging on by their fingernails in the vain hope of an upturn in the economy.

In the mean time we are sliding to the edge of the abyss. July will tell us if the banks give them a further last extension on their loans, at a higher rate, IF they do. Or they claim ownership of the club IF there are no buyers.

In the mean time other interested parties are prepared to stay quiet so as to let Hicks and Gillet go to the wall before they show their hands. In doing so they will acquire one of the worlds most famous football clubs at a bargain basement price.

We the fans have organised into a fans union S.O.S. and have formed a buyout share scheme in Share Liverpool. What we haven't done yet is involve ourselves in DIRECT ACTION against the American owners.

Boycotted the clubs shops, yes, and emailed protests across the States wherever the two parasites may be, yes, but nothing serious as yet. As fans, the club is foremost in our thoughts; we should be the very last people to place a negative, disruptive action against it.

This is the scenario that faces all Liverpool fans next month. If the Yanks get their way DIRECT ACTION must be taken against them, even to boycotting home games.  They are a cancer in our club. If we have to cut off a hand to get rid we must.

Our Day of Deliverance is now at hand, if we lose, all fans will lose.

It will be your turn next.

H&G have been quiete for months now thinking we will forgive & forget. Two yanks that have been here 5 mins thinking we gonna line our pockets on fans expenses.

We havn't forgot we never will, they will pay like we have done with their little money making schemes over tics & ticket schemes they keep changing over since they have been here.

It's not fair, this clubs fans will never lie down & let our club get taken to the cleaners.

They don't care we do, We need to act in the best interests of this club. Boycotting club shop, even games as John as said the way forward.

I thought of you when I was in Llandudno Waspy.

I'm in to re-discovering North Wales this summer. Snowdonia is still my favourite but little places like Llandudno have a lot to offer. I'm a pushover for Victorian piers and architecture. I get upset though when I see the pier buildings looking shabby and the shoddy service and food from the cafes.

You probably already know this Waspy but here in Merseyside we have/had two seaside towns with all the tack and kiss me quick hats that go with them.

One is Southport which maintains a sort of Victorian elegance for the most part, a shore line that you need binoculars for to see the sea, and a fun fair that attracted us as teenagers most week-ends. The three most important things in Pleasureland was the Helter Skelter, the Donkey Derby and the most important of all, The Fun House.

You used to be able to pay your money and go in the fun house for the afternoon. You could hear the latest records and ride on the wheel of death, which was a revolving disc. With spinning turntables, cakewalks, moving stairs and revolving barrels, many a summer Sunday was spent there. It's now all gone, making Southport not a very good seaside town nor a full blown Victorian town. They've taken away all of it's character as far as I'm concerned. It's still got a pier though, one of the longest in Britain, (it has to be because the sea is so far away) It's a good pier, but a long walk to the end of.

This was the the revolving wheel of death.

THE WHEEL OF DEATH

The other seaside town was my favourite, New Brighton. Very compact with all the seaside amenities and fun fair within easy walking distance.

It had a tower which contained a ballroom, where a 1,000 couples could dance with plenty of space. It had a monkey house, an aviery, a winter gardens, refreshment rooms and a whole lot more. There were cable cars and through the 70's they had some of the top bands of the day on the tower.

Surrounding it was the fun fair, theatres, the beach and all the things you'd expect to see in a seaside town..
It was a wonderful place but the best thing about it was the transport, you had to get the ferry over the water which meant a glorious trip on the Royal Iris ( a much loved boat here) which dropped you on the pier with all of it's Victorian pavillions and side shows. Is it all still there?

Is it shiite, they pulled it all down and turned New Brighton in to a ghost town. I was taken over the water many a summer Sunday when I was a child and the New Brighton ferry was always full to capacity, and they got rid of it all.

Really didn't know I remembered all of that.

Anyway, we still have Southport pier, which is a blessing, but that's it, both towns have become defunct.

Hard lines about the PTS Steve, I feel for you mate.

We have 65,000 on the ST waiting list as well, and only about 20 to 30 are given up each year.

Seaside towns are the best, the pier in Llandudno is quality
a fairly long one at that. we have one at southend closest ta me & you need the train that runs on it ta get ta the end.

some reason it keeps getting burnt & gets shorter each time was the longest pier ever but not sure now.

Been southport, many yrs ago don't remember too much but like you said not really what they used ta be now.

I was happy with me PTS, was like a seasi tic without expense plus virtually garenteed tics if you were on the ball when they went on sale. So i'm back ta square one unless they go on a loyalty scheme then I should be ok fingers crossed.
