I have no axe to grind with Newcastle fans; on the whole I've always found them very much akin to Scousers, on holiday by the pool, they do like a pint and will talk all day long.
But.....
Why do they though have this arrogant, grandiose impression of their team? Why do they think the football world revolves around them? I won't start debunking them with honours lists, that's far too easy. There must be a reason for their belief in the standing of their team though, but what is it?
Is it their geographic location? The Geordie Nation! Tucked away in the far north east corner, practically in Scotland. Are they fed biased propaganda by local media bigging up their importance akin to what's going on in North Korea?
You could say the same of the Liverpool Echo or the Manchester Evening News. Difference is, we are constantly looking over each others shoulder.
Is it they are a one team town, unlike ourselves, always good to bring your Evertonians world down to earth, and vice versa?
To me as an outsider looking in, this attitude is their worst enemy.
Weak leadership pandering to the masses for quick fixes. No ones ever good enough a manager. Even Sir Bobby Robson was shown the door after fans declared he could not take them any further, not to mention Dalglish, he didn't know what he was doing ? There's plenty more, but IMO this is their Achilles.
The day they realise their place in the real world, is were they are right now, is the day they will move forward.
