THE FA'S GROUNDHOG DAY - CARRAS COLUMN
By John Christie
April 25 2009
FAs GROUNDHOG DAY---We’ve all seen the movie, Bill Murray arrives in a small boring middle of nowhere town for the weekend, and to his horror he's trapped there. Day after day the same stream of events repeats in a never ending loop.

Today all the media are raging over the allocation of tickets to the finalists.   Absurd, ridiculous, unfair they rage.  How can 25 000 tickets per club cater for all their season ticket holders let alone the rest of their following.

The FA reply is the usual “we have to look after the football family”. The FA Cup final IS Groundhog Day.   Every year we hear the same outrage from fans fearing they will miss the big day. Every year we hear the same reply from the FA. Who are the "Football Family

They are all the county officials from Durham to Devon who organise and run amateur football. They are referees, amateur teams etc etc.  Its to these people and sponsors that about 40000 tickets will go.  Fine, very noble gesture by the FA, but we the real fans know its these very tickets that will end up in the hands of touts.  It’s a great perk, nice little earner for the FA family but it’s at our expense every year.  The FA know exactly what’s happening, make all the right noises, but we all know they will do sweet FA.

Truth be known they don’t give a fig about the fans, never have done and never will.   Every one a fart in a blazer, set apart in their ivory tower.  In the movie Bill Murray actually changes events of the day to suit him.  Don’t get your hopes up.  This time next year we will have the same outcry and the same result.

Chelsea and Everton fans you are about to be sh*t on from a great height.

I got to see the 86 final due to a pair of those tickets because my old man played in goal for a local side and won them in a charity raffle at his club. The catch? We were in the Everton end which was the wrong end for all the goals!
