By Mighty Reds November 4 2007 Liverpool manager,Rafa Benitez, has stated that it won’t be the end of the world if Liverpool get knocked out of the Champions League, but he believes that his team can turn it around and get through to the knockout stages if they have enough belief in themselves.
Rafa said:"Am I surprised that we are in this situation? No. In this competition if you make one mistake you can be in trouble and that has happened," said Benitez.
"Because of our past achievements, if we go out now people would say it is the end of something.
"But if we lose it is not the end of the world, and if we do the right things against Besiktas and win then we have the confidence to go forward and win again - we will have momentum.
"If we cannot win these three games and finish in the UEFA Cup, then we must accept that.
"I am not going to drive myself crazy by thinking about the permutations - you can't do anything about the other teams until you play them. But it is a time to believe."
The prestige of advancing to the latter stages of Europe's elite competition is not the only reason the Reds will be keen to win at home to Turkish outfit, with Benitez admitting that it would also go some way to boosting the Anfield coffers.
"It's important to win in terms of the financial situation," he said.
"We know the Besiktas game is really important but if you approach the game under pressure you will make mistakes. We need to win but we must play with confidence.
"If we qualify it will be much easier with money, but our long-term plan doesn't depend on this competition."
Ithink we will get through but its out of our hands ,if we dont its a fiancal short term setback but lets face facts as 5 year plans go were ahead of schedule, total planet domination again is still in sght again, in Rafa i trust.
I thought youlot wanted the league more than anything anyway?
.
“It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it" P Kenyon.
I really think Rafa has done as much as he could for liverpool...he is not goos with handling players and his handling of crouch is distasteful...
his tactics have become absolutely impossible to understand..and you feel hes continuing his rotation system just to prove his critics wrong even if its bad for the team..
rafa's time is over...
