Benayoun signs
By Mighty Reds July 13 2007
YOSSI BENAYOUN, yesterday, sealed a deal that will take him from West Ham to Liverpool on a four year contract. The 27 year old Israeli international midfielder signed the contract on Thursday afternoon and Rafa Benitez sees him as the type of player the Reds need to add creativity to the Liverpool front line.

Benitez said:

"I first saw him play for Racing Santander in La Liga when he was a really good player, but when he first came to England we were watching to be sure he could adapt to a different style of football," said the Liverpool boss.

"It's clear he's done this very well at West Ham. Liverpool fans will remember how he played in the FA Cup Final against us when he was outstanding. We thought then this was a player who is capable of stepping up to a higher level.

"He was offered a big new contract at West Ham and received offers from a lot of other clubs offering him more money but Yossi's message was always the same. He said he was desperate to only join Liverpool because this was his dream. When Rick, the Americans and I spoke about the player, we all agreed this is the kind of attitude we and our supporters really like.

"When you have quality players with his ability showing so much passion to play for your club, it's really good for the team."

I concur carra. Would still rather have Lil Luis like but not a bad replacement.

"I'm very pleased to have agreed this new deal. From the first moment I arrived at West Ham, the Club felt like home to me. We have the best supporters in England.

"I'm very happy because I want to stay at this Club. I'm sure we'll have a better season next season because we have players with a lot of quality. We will also have new players coming in to make us stronger and better. I'm very pleased because it is the best place for me.

"The Chairman is very ambitious and I want to thank him because the negotiations were very quick. He and the manager showed me they wanted me to stay immediately. Hopefully I will pay them back on the pitch and I will do everything in my power to match their ambition."

Look forward to welcoming you back to Upton Park, Yossi, with your new friends along with Rick 'The Grass' Parry (shh...don't mention the Fulham game) and 'Tapper'Benitez. Liverpool, lower than a snakes belly

Iron man i can understand your frustration but they all give the same spiel when joining a new club, its a running joke in these parts "ive always supported them" blah blah blah. Pinch of salt required my friend,Im no fan of Rick Parry but once he noticed the documentation was not as it should be he was legally bound to blow the whistle other wise we would of been in the shi*t.The Fulham game was before the final we done nothing wrong blame your own team first.Good luck anyway next season im sure youll fare much bettr

Well said Carra...sorry if I sound a bit jaundiced but you could beggin to get everso slightly peed off continually being criticised in press all the time. The Fulham game I was alluding to was the '9 man change' one that gave them 3 points at the end of last season and so meant that Sheffield United rather than Fulham were relegated. In these parts there is a definate feeling that we are being taken advantage of and are a convenient whipping boy...that Rick Parry was possibly a little too 'helpful' and had alterior (Tevez) motives. Maybe I'm just being paranoid...been wearing claret and blue spectacles for so long I'm not sure what I'm looking at any more. Thanks for your response.
