Trigger To Table A Takeover Bid?
By Quayle
May 15 2005
For all Tranmere Rovers fans, there has been some news that will obviously interest you all. It seems that Tranmere Rovers captian, Jason McAteer wants to take his new found love for the club a stage further by buying the club along with two of his best friends, but who are these associates?

If you can set your minds back to two years previously, you can remember the days of  the Ray Mathias sacking scandal.

After that chaos, club owner, Peter Johnson said if anyone came in to buy the club offer at a deemed reasonable price he will sell, that offer still seems to be on the cards today, until now has there been no interest.

It seems that a possible buyout has surfaced as a trio of buyers have formed together and want to buy the club. But it seems that the three buyers are not of a usual business-like background, but instead the have plyed their trade as footballers, and have fallen in love with the club. So much so that one of the buyers is non other than captain, Jason McAteer and his two best friends Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman, both currently playing for Manchester City and who have both also been linked with the club.

The threesome met up at Merseyside giants, Liverpool. Since then they keep in contact on a regular basis, something that would be great at the club, communication. While the other two are still in the Premiership, McAteer has really settled in at Tranmere, doing his coaching badges and now it seems he wants to take his challenge a step further.

Although the possibility of the buyout is very small, but it is by no reason far fetch'd unlike some of the rumours that have scaled recently as the season has closed. Robbie Fowler is well known for being one of the richest footballers around and backed up with his two friends, money would be aplenty, prehpas they set out to "Do an Abromavich" and turn a relatively small club into something of greatness by their standards.

Even being compared to the greats of Chelsea and what Abromavich has achieved is a contrast that cannot be placed, certainly at the situation they find temsleves while we slum it in the play-offs of League One with a major 2-0 disadvantage

Tranmere have not achieved alot compared to some clubs and always play little sister, when sized up against Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool, so do the trio have something up their sleeve to get the club into the big time.

But now that I'm back to earth, will they even place a bid on the table of Mr. Peter Johnson. Just the thought of it in my mind seems unlikely but then if someone asked you two years ago " your striker will ahve a successful clothing range" I simply would have nodded and walked away.

But, if theres any time to be confident its now, we need a timely boost ahead of the play-offs second leg, where it seems we have a handicap tagging us along.

So lets wait and see what happens in the future but you know where you heard it first.

Can you imagaine them being at the top of the Tranmere Rovers Hierachy? Either way talk about it on the Total Tranmere Message Board.
