A look ahead to Rovers' home FA Cup First Round Replay against Petereborough United for a chance to travel to fellow National League side Woking in Round Two..
There has been a lot of talk about the SWA lately and the amazing support we have been offering the team, home and away. Most of the press conferences after the game have cited the 12th man as being instrumental in recent victories so clearly the playing staff value us. But how much influence will we have on what happens on the pitch tomorrow night?
I have heard a lot of players talking about the inspiration they get from the stands and how it spurs them on but it can't just be that can it? Because when I think of all the wonderful moments I have had supporting our brilliant team, I would also have to say that we have had some great players out on the pitch to motivate.
I have been lucky to see the likes of Muir, Harvey, Steel, Morrissey, Nevin, Aldridge, Mahon, Koumas, Hume to name but a few. And they have given us a lot to cheer about. So is it the quality on the pitch that inspires us instead?
Well the truth lies somewhere between the two because I firmly believe that we feed off each other to create a potent atmosphere at Prenton Park in particular. And that is the other ingredient that needs be added - the temple we worship at on Prenton Road West.
We all go to a ground that is small but compact and has the fans close enough to the pitch to create an intimidating atmosphere. Never mind the history of all of the giant killings that have happened to add a further level of pressure for any away team.
Mickey Mellon has got a new breed of players to get us on the edge of our seats (and even out of them at times), and we need just need to continue adding our voices and general noise to make all teams fear PP.
Winter is coming and so are the Super White Army. Peterborough need to watch out...

Off to bed HKR, must be middle of night. Wake up in the morning and don't care about the 4-0 loss!

I would like to think that notts forrest wouldnt want mcdonough back after that performance, it was terrible. How he starts ahead of cook has me puzzled

Mc Cleverley should never wear a Tranmere shirt again total liability play the youth instead all day he was responsible for the first two goals. Davies however also should not have passed to Mc Cleverley to start with and you could blame Davies for 4 of the goals. Wouldn't do any harm to drop him and bring Pilling in, that was not acceptable tonight. Harris i can forgive was just too wound up no complaint he deserved a straight red. Mc Donough was poor and no comparison to Cookie who instantly showed his class. Anyway no matter all will be forgotten if we beat Gateshead and the Silkmen.
Quote:Not much of a free game and not many positives Harris/Jennings suspended and Norburn has picked up a knock add the missing Hughes and Duggan and we appear to have no midfield players at all.SeeJayKay
Yes it was 5-0 and we were the architects of our own downfall but we played some great stuff in the second half with 10 men. At times they were struggling to cope.
It was a free game tonight. Take the positives and lie someone else said erase the negatives.
3 points come Saturday
Quote:Spot on about Davies a awful pass to Mceverley compounded by him returning the compliment.SmartRover
After the stewards enquiry I hope MM is honest enough to admit he made a big mistake with his starting 11 tonight, 3 pensioners at the back and Ridehalgh unable to make a decent pass to a teammate, Davies started the rot and dropped McEverley in it big time, just hope that chip on his shoulder has finally been kicked into touch as he was poor tonight, Buxton must start on Saturday and let’s ask MM why on earth Cook didn’t start tonight, as others said unless he’s carrying an injury which he was at the final whistle. McDonagh had an absolute mare tonight and won nowt and didn’t look interested whereas Cookie looked good and actually won some headers. Not looking forward to Gateshead but I’ll be there supporting the SWA, I hope MM picks a team on merit and not just his favourites.

From my view in the Kop that all seemed to stem from Davies and slack pass in the first place

3 mistakes have cost us:
1) 1st goal. What was Davies and McEverley doing? Boot it up the field FFS!
2) 2nd goal Harris was marking the goal scorer, but left him to stand on the line, allowing him all the time in the world to finish it.
3) following on from 2, harris’ head has dropped and he carries out a ridiculous challenge on an area that didn’t require such a challenge!
Up until goal 1, we matched them.
Thanks for the link

Just seen the analysis at half time. McEveley to blame for both goals - not Scotty's greatest clearance but the lack of control and back pass were a joke, then he goes walkabout in the penalty box leaving a massive gap for the second.
Can understand why MM went for a similar line up and formation to the team that got a draw down there but we've only got ourselves to blame for this. Even though Posh have looked determined to avoid an upset since the first whistle.

Why was cook not playing ,he played well Saturday then gets dropped ,I give up ,Harris deserved his red card ,He can be a liability at times. Let the club down ,Davies was poor give them 2goals not as good as he thinks he is ,the only good thing from this shambles is second half they played some really good football and they never gave up ,the annoying part is before those first two goals they looked like they could give posh a good game ,we gave them all their goals very disappointing ,we should ban TVs cameras from PP .people all over the country only see the worst of us ,once again I question Mellons selection maceverley especially

For a 5-0 defeat that was actually a good performance. 3 of the goals came from set pieces, and when you let them in you will struggle. But aside from that, it was a defensive error for the first goal, and then two rushes of blood after conceding (the red card and the penalty) which made the scoreline so big.
For the first 20 minutes we were the better team. We let our heads drop after the first goal and ended the tie there.
The first 20 minutes of the second half we were the better team and looked like we might get back into it. We performed well in that period.
At 5-0 we were probably the better team, and kept our confidence and pushing forward and no-one seemed to have given up. It would have been easy to play for Saturday, but we went for the consolation instead.
Obvious Peterborough were much, much more clinical in the parts of the game they were in front, and didn't need to do anything in the second half. But scoreline aside there were lots of positives to take from that performance. The scoreline should dent confidence, but I suspect (Davies, McEverely and Harris apart) everyone will feel positive about their own performance, and it's highlighted there is work to do on defending set-pieces.

It must be a record. Two calamity Jays in one game.

Given the league is priority and with the unfortunate injuries, I can only assume M is keeping Cook for the really important game on Saturday, given he isn't the fittest or most mobile of the forwards. I couldn't care less about the FA Cup at the moment. What is important is that the team had started to play reasonably well in the past 8 games of the league. And as for Norwood and missed chances, he has scored 6 times in that run of 8 games,
