A look ahead to Rovers' home FA Cup First Round Replay against Petereborough United for a chance to travel to fellow National League side Woking in Round Two..

There has been a lot of talk about the SWA lately and the amazing support we have been offering the team, home and away. Most of the press conferences after the game have cited the 12th man as being instrumental in recent victories so clearly the playing staff value us. But how much influence will we have on what happens on the pitch tomorrow night?

I have heard a lot of players talking about the inspiration they get from the stands and how it spurs them on but it can't just be that can it? Because when I think of all the wonderful moments I have had supporting our brilliant team, I would also have to say that we have had some great players out on the pitch to motivate.

I have been lucky to see the likes of Muir, Harvey, Steel, Morrissey, Nevin, Aldridge, Mahon, Koumas, Hume to name but a few. And they have given us a lot to cheer about. So is it the quality on the pitch that inspires us instead?

Well the truth lies somewhere between the two because I firmly believe that we feed off each other to create a potent atmosphere at Prenton Park in particular. And that is the other ingredient that needs be added - the temple we worship at on Prenton Road West.

We all go to a ground that is small but compact and has the fans close enough to the pitch to create an intimidating atmosphere. Never mind the history of all of the giant killings that have happened to add a further level of pressure for any away team.

Mickey Mellon has got a new breed of players to get us on the edge of our seats (and even out of them at times), and we need just need to continue adding our voices and general noise to make all teams fear PP.

Winter is coming and so are the Super White Army. Peterborough need to watch out...

Peterborough are a good team having inflicted the first defeat of the season on Shrewsbury town so I will go for 2-1 to posh ,aided by the fact we don't play well in front of tv cameras.but hopefully I am wrong as they have some injury problems ,but will go with a 1-2

3 mistakes have cost us:

1) 1st goal. What was Davies and McEverley doing? Boot it up the field FFS!

2) 2nd goal Harris was marking the goal scorer, but left him to stand on the line, allowing him all the time in the world to finish it.

3) following on from 2, harris’ head has dropped and he carries out a ridiculous challenge on an area that didn’t require such a challenge!

Up until goal 1, we matched them.

Just seen the analysis at half time. McEveley to blame for both goals - not Scotty's greatest clearance but the lack of control and back pass were a joke, then he goes walkabout in the penalty box leaving a massive gap for the second.

Can understand why MM went for a similar line up and formation to the team that got a draw down there but we've only got ourselves to blame for this. Even though Posh have looked determined to avoid an upset since the first whistle.

Lots of stupidity today, feel a bit sorry for the 7 players plus subs who got beat 5_0 didn't deserve to be on the end of a hammering. Harris McCeverley an Davies need to hang there heads in shame. It was always a tough ask even with 11 v 11 but at least we saw some goals. Thought there no 11 was very good.

And whatever we took in gate receipts and TV money will be going toward the massive fine we will get from the FA for the idiots throwing bottles at the pitch and the dick who lashed one at their no 10.

Mc Cleverley should never wear a Tranmere shirt again total liability play the youth instead all day he was responsible for the first two goals. Davies however also should not have passed to Mc Cleverley to start with and you could blame Davies for 4 of the goals. Wouldn't do any harm to drop him and bring Pilling in, that was not acceptable tonight. Harris i can forgive was just too wound up no complaint he deserved a straight red. Mc Donough was poor and no comparison to Cookie who instantly showed his class. Anyway no matter all will be forgotten if we beat Gateshead and the Silkmen.

Let the club down ,Davies was poor give them 2goals not as good as he thinks he is ,the only good thing from this shambles is second half they played some really good football and they never gave up ,the annoying part is before those first two goals they looked like they could give posh a good game ,we gave them all their goals very disappointing ,we should ban TVs cameras from PP .people all over the country only see the worst of us ,once again I question Mellons selection maceverley especially

The result is disappointing, there were some positive signs going forward in the second half, a man down it was always going to be a route but credit to them for keeping going. In the first game McEverly did play well but towards the end of that game he was targeted and that continued tonight. I don't like to single out a player but in the games I've seen (with the exception of the first Cup game) he has looked like an accident waiting to happen. Gumbs or Drysdale would be better options, they might make mistakes but they are young enough to learn and get better. If three at the back is going to be persisted with I'd rather seen one of the young lads in, or even Buxton.
The big problem with tonight's result is that Harris and Jennings will miss the next game (Harris 3 games) so the midfield is going to be a little empty.

Pretty much agree with all this bar the Harris bit. I said exactly the same to my lad, actually blame Davies more then McCeverley for the first, but he has the benift of seeing everything in front of him it was pretty much a dead man's ball he gave McCeverley he had no where to go an having gave it him he never gave him the heads up and demanded he launch it, never took control of his area and all game Inc the 2 corners. He's a decent shot stopper but he makes bizarre decisions which I think unsettles the back 4 I would defo give Pilling a run of games after tonight.

My thoughts already voiced here by others.

The good...

You couldn't tell we were down to 10 men for most the second half. Great character shown to stay in the game after the second went in.

Norwood workrate.

I thought Buxton was immense. Wouldn't believe it looking at guy but he was skipping past players with ease at times. Strong positive aggression.

The bad...

Two goals were set pieces immediately after a substitution. Maybe there's an organisational problem there during the transition.

Surely we'll have to sit mceverley out for a bit now. Stupid tackle by Jay.

Not sure what the point of gerry is. As soon as Cook came on we started winning the ball up front.

Their number 10 wad a bit of a showman wasn't he. Entertained the kop throughout the first half

After the stewards enquiry I hope MM is honest enough to admit he made a big mistake with his starting 11 tonight, 3 pensioners at the back and Ridehalgh unable to make a decent pass to a teammate, Davies started the rot and dropped McEverley in it big time, just hope that chip on his shoulder has finally been kicked into touch as he was poor tonight, Buxton must start on Saturday and let’s ask MM why on earth Cook didn’t start tonight, as others said unless he’s carrying an injury which he was at the final whistle. McDonagh had an absolute mare tonight and won nowt and didn’t look interested whereas Cookie looked good and actually won some headers. Not looking forward to Gateshead but I’ll be there supporting the SWA, I hope MM picks a team on merit and not just his favourites.

Also to partly blame for the first goal was McNulty who wasn't paying attention to who was around him at the time, as if he had been he could probably have cleared it, as he was nearer the ball than Lloyd was, but Lloyd was more alert.
Davis was to blame for 3 of the goals, the penalty, the one when he palmed it back into the area again instead of out to the wing and, the one where he stayed on is line, when he should have come out and collected the cross.
But the bread and butter game that really counts his on Saturday.

As soon as I saw that Dylan was playing at wing back rather than out on the wing I thought we would be in trouble, felt sorry for the lad.
We looked better playing 4-3-2 in the 2nd half, 3-5-2 just didn't work.
Agree with most posters, Scotty had a mare, basic goalkeeping errors cost us the first third and fourth goals, can't blame him for the pen, what else was he meant to do.
Peterborough were good, lots of quality in the team, all round better players, stronger, fitter, none of our players would have made their starting 11.
Bit worried about the injuries, Cook was not fit and should not have come on, we missed Hughes big style, chance for others to come in on Saturday.

For a 5-0 defeat that was actually a good performance. 3 of the goals came from set pieces, and when you let them in you will struggle. But aside from that, it was a defensive error for the first goal, and then two rushes of blood after conceding (the red card and the penalty) which made the scoreline so big.

For the first 20 minutes we were the better team. We let our heads drop after the first goal and ended the tie there.

The first 20 minutes of the second half we were the better team and looked like we might get back into it. We performed well in that period.

At 5-0 we were probably the better team, and kept our confidence and pushing forward and no-one seemed to have given up. It would have been easy to play for Saturday, but we went for the consolation instead.

Obvious Peterborough were much, much more clinical in the parts of the game they were in front, and didn't need to do anything in the second half. But scoreline aside there were lots of positives to take from that performance. The scoreline should dent confidence, but I suspect (Davies, McEverely and Harris apart) everyone will feel positive about their own performance, and it's highlighted there is work to do on defending set-pieces.

Why was cook not playing ,he played well Saturday then gets dropped ,I give up ,Harris deserved his red card ,He can be a liability at times.

Given the league is priority and with the unfortunate injuries, I can only assume M is keeping Cook for the really important game on Saturday, given he isn't the fittest or most mobile of the forwards. I couldn't care less about the FA Cup at the moment. What is important is that the team had started to play reasonably well in the past 8 games of the league. And as for Norwood and missed chances, he has scored 6 times in that run of 8 games,

I don't think we were the better team at any stage. Up till the first calamitous goal,we were as good as them. Then we fell to bits and towards the end of the first half they were taking the P*** in midfield with their very small little triangular patterns.
The first twenty minutes of the second half ,we gave it a real go but they missed three sitters in the first five minutes of the half. We gave as good as we got till we parted like the Red Sea for the third goal.

After 5-0,Peterborough just played out time but still could have nicked the odd one or two as could we.

The suspensions and injuries are much more of a major problem than last nights result or performance.

5 calamitous schoolboy mistakes in defence and a horror tackle resulting in a sending off... but, that aside, I thought we played okay!
FFFS!

I never thought I'd say this but we should have! put out a reserve team in FA co. I know it worked for Lincoln last season but we now have an important league game with no midfield. On a more positive note I saw that Matt zRhead was able to snooze on the bench rather than the turf last weekend

Matt Rhead was on the bench but also on the injury list.

With the state of our finances this was a must win big game.
