The fixtures for the 2015/16 Vanarama National League season have just been released with Rovers fans now able to plan for the season ahead…..
Tranmere will begin their first season outside the Football League in 94 years on 8th August with a home game against Woking. with their first away game following just three days later as they travel to Gateshead on Tuesday 11th August somewhat bringing home the reality of Rovers newly found position in the football pyramid.
The much anticipated games at home and away against Wrexham are on Tuesday 6th October (away) and Saturday 16th April (home) whilst the other local derbies against Chester FC are on Saturday 12th September (home) and Saturday 27th February (away). Rovers take on Southport for the first time in League competition for 39 years on Tuesday 15th September (away) and Tuesday 9th February (home) giving Superwhite fans much to look forward to in the coming months.
Tranmere travel to Chester on Saturday 27th February
Over the festive period, Tranmere face a double-header against Macclesfield Town on Boxing Day (away) and Saturday 2nd January (home) whilst also facing Altrincham at home on Monday 28th December.
Rovers end their campaign with what could potentially be a huge game in the division at home to Grimsby on Saturday 30th April.
What times are the last trains from wrexham and southport horrible that they are midweek games!! kiddy harriers away easter monday not a nice trip on the m6 on that day either!
Southport's ground is a good distance from the station in any case. The last train from Southport won't be the problem so much as getting back for the connection to this side. Not happy that the big games against local sides all seem to be midweek, that makes things really hard.
quite a tough run in of fixtures in march and april. all midweek fixtures are in the first half of the season with the exception of one. two last away games will be the two furthest teams geographically. grimsby home last game, hope we are up by then.
my dark horse for the season is torquay utd. dont think they have a particularly large budget, but with new, local ownership and the appointment of paul cox as the boss, they might surprise a few. after saying that, they will probably end up having a dire season, lol.
That could go any way really. top 10-5, mid-table or struggle.
However with some sensible ownership and a solid progressive manager, you can make a decent budget work well and succeed even where big spenders fail and let's face it Sheffield United are massive by league one terms and are still in it and barring Wolves and possibly Preston and Sheffield Wednesday in recent years, every team who finished ahead of them will have spent considerably less, or in the case of a team like Coventry a bit less, but Torquay could quite rightly achieve more than their budget might suggest, by signing value for money players with a top notch attitude and the right people to coach and motivate then and give them tactics that let them play to their best most weeks.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
