Shaun Garnett included three players in his squad who may be unfamiliar to even the regular watchers of Rovers' Reserve side in William Vaulkes, Danny Wilson and Cole Stockton as they have yet to feature in the second string this season.
The starting line-up was as follows....
Collister
Benson Vaulkes Ashcroft Pursehouse
Mackreth Baker Roberts Gibbs
Power
Jennings
Subs: Coughlin, Rule, McNamara, Wilson, Stockton
Rovers started at a blistering pace and after a terrific passing move directly from the kick-off, could have been 1-0 up after just 20 seconds but the header went just wide of the goal after a good cross by Jack Mackreth.
With only eight minutes on the clock, Rovers' shots on target already reached almost double figures including a long range effort striking the Celtic crossbar and just a minute later the deadlock was broken when Connor Roberts finished well from just inside the penalty area after Farsley had failed to clear the initial danger.
Now a goal to the good there was no let up from Rovers and they went for the jugular with more attacking football which left Joe Collister and his defence virtually unemployed for a while. Indeed it was Rovers who scored again when Dale Jennings netted a neat flick at the near post after yet another cross from the right hand side.
With the pace of Dale Jennings upfront always looking a threat and with Baker, Power and Roberts performing well in midfield, there more chances for Rovers after the second goal but as the half progessed and Rovers eased up, the visitors began to get back into the game with some opportunities of their own.
In spite of this Rovers made it through to half time two goals to the good and looking good for a second round place.
HALF-TIME: TRANMERE ROVERS 2 - 0 FARSLEY CELTIC
The start of the second half was a different story as Farsley came out sharper and looking to quickly get back into the match and give themselves hope of an upset in the opening round of the competition.
Although there weren't many clear cut chances, Collister was the busier of the two Keepers in the early part of the second half as Rovers made hard work of their two goal lead but at the same time, shots from Power and Baker sailed just over Jordan Myer's goal to remind the visitors that Rovers were still a threat.
In the middle of the second half, Ross Rule replaced Jay Gibbs and with seven minutes left David McNamara replaced Jack Mackreth. Shaun Garnett's final substitution with just three minutes left saw Danny Wilson replace the impressive youngster William Vaulks before Rovers finally sealed the game through the ever-impressive Max Power who got clear of his man and fired a superb strike into the top corner.
After Cambridge United sped to a half-time 4-0 lead at Histon tonight, the home side held them off in the second half to prevent a worse scoreline but which still ensured that Rovers will host Cambridge in the second round in two weeks time with further details to follow.

Dale Jennings - A difficult choice in this game but Dale looked a threat with his pace throughout and the only thing missing was a goal from him. Connor Roberts, Max Power and Tom Baker also looked lively and Ashcroft and Vaulkes were commanding at the back.
