Rovers’ Caretaker Manager Les Parry has today moved to ease the goalkeeping crisis at the Club caused by Monday night’s red card for Luke Daniels by swooping for Liverpool stopper David Martin on a month-long loan deal…..

Following Luke Daniel's red card on Monday night that will see him suspended from first team action until November and therefore missing three matches, Rovers caretaker Manager Les Parry has moved swiftly to find experienced cover by signing Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin on a one month loan deal.

With 17 year-old Joe Collister the only other registered goalkeeper at the Club, a move for more experience to cover Daniel's absence was clearly needed and it would seem that Les Parry has checked in with his old friends John McMahon (Liverpool Reserve Team Manager) and former Rovers player and now Reds goalkeeping coach John Achterberg to land the services of Martin.

The 23 year-old keeper signed for Liverpool in January 2006 from MK Dons having made 25 appearances for them whilst still a teenager and during his time at Liverpool so far he has spent three months on loan at Accrington Stanley in 2006-07, and last season was loaned to Leicester City as they stormed to the League One Championship.

Liverpool Goalkeeper David Martin Joins Rovers for a Month

David Martin is the son of former West Ham player Alvin Martin and has made 65 career appearances so far and been capped by England at Under-20 level.

Speaking of his new recruit, Tranmere Caretaker Manager Les Parry said:

"I'm really pleased to be able to bring a goalkeeper of David's quality in.  He's very highly rated and was one of the best goalkeepers in League One last season. He played a lot of games for Leicester City, keeping clean sheets in almost half of them."

"Saturday's game is very important for us and with Luke Daniels being suspended we needed an experienced goalkeeper.  David will give us that experience and much more as well."

"I'd like to thank Rafa Benitez and John McMahon for allowing him to come to us for a month."

Martin will be available for Rovers' home game against Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow afternoon and admission for this game has been reduced to just £5.00 for Seniors and current and ex-servicemen and women. More details of this offer are available on THIS LINK.

very good news for the imediate future, I presume that We'll have to play him for a Month knocking Luke and Joe down a step, They both may be glad of the change and may be able to recharge their batteries. It is very short notice for him to meet, let alone gel with our lads, but needs must. I read that Les's been told by PJ that there is money available for him ! "a funny old Game "

Well Luke won't play until the 7th November (FA Cup Round 1) anyway because of his three match ban but yeah I think it's a decent signing for sure!

I stand corrected. Apparently Daniels is banned for just one match according to the Football League Website.

You only ever get a three-game ban for violent conduct. Vincent was the only person showing any violence, hurling himself to the ground violently when Luke's knee came within a few inches of his toes as he bore down on a goal which was protected only by the onrushing Goodison, aka the last man. Footie and refs eh?
