By Deadly Submarine
July 9 2009
Tranmere’s pre-season campaign for 2009/10 gets underway on Friday night when what is sure to be a young Rovers side travel to Anglesey to take on Holyhead Hotspur from the Cymru Alliance League in a repeat of one of last year’s pre-season games. Here we bring you a quick preview of the game ahead.....

Article Header - Pre-Season Match Preview

It may have seemed like an eternity for many Rovers fans but on Friday night the long summer wait for football is over as Tranmere's pre-season campaign gets underway with a Reserve Team visit to Holyhead Hotspur who play in Wales's Cymru Alliance League with the game having come about thanks to Holyhead's Emlyn Manley Williams who is a part-time coach at Rovers and a good link between the two sides.

Whilst the Reserve Team to play tomorrow is most likely to consist of first and second year youth scholars rather than any first team players, the game provides those who make the trip to have a good look at Rovers' latest batch of young players as well as the progression of those now into their second year as a YTS at Prenton Park.

Despite the changes at Prenton Park so far this summer, Shaun Garnett remains in charge of the Reserve and Youth sides and will lead his team on Friday night in the hope of going one better than last pre- season when the sides drew 1-1.

Rovers took the lead in that game thanks to a first half own goal but the hosts equalised from a corner kick in the second half and the game remained tied until the end.

The players to look out for in this game include the following...

Second Year Scholars:

Joe Collister (Goalkeeper)

Jack Mackreth

Tom Baker

Ross Rule

Jay Ashcroft

Alex Pursehouse.

First Year Scholars:

Liam Benson

Andrew Coughlin

Callum Fairclough

Jay Gibbs

Dale Jennings

David McNamara

Ben Oliver

Max Power

Conor Roberts

Total Tranmere will be at this game tomorrow night and a match report and pictures will be available late on Friday or sometime on Saturday so make sure you check back to see how the youths progressed on their first pre season visit to Wales.

Anyone else going?

I think Trevor Charles went last year and reported on it for us?

I'd love to go being a Tranmere and Holyhead fan, but same as last year location and work commitments prevent me from doing so. Trevor Charles did do a decent report last season if I remember correctly and from what I could gather from the Holyhead write up it was quite a good game. I think Jay Gibbs (Tranmere) is a Holyhead lad and I think Holyhead have just signed Mike Foster from Porthmadog in the Welsh Premier (former Rovers player?)
