Tranmere's Prenton Park Stadium will next season play host to Liverpool's Reserve side after confirmation came today from the Club that the Premier League side's second string will play all of their home matches on the other side of the water.

This means that Prenton Park will be graced by Reserve sides from Premier League teams including Everton, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City and will also mean that some of Liverpool's rising stars will be playing regularly in Wirral as part of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.

Having previously played Reserve fixtures at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground and also in Widnes in past seasons, Liverpool's move to Prenton increases the link between Rovers and Liverpool Reserves who are now managed by former Rovers Assistant manager John McMahon whilst John Achterberg is also now coaching at the Club.

Tranmere Chief Executive Mick Horton said.....

"We are delighted to be able to host Liverpool's home Reserve fixtures next season and look forward to welcoming them to Prenton Park.  It will be a good opportunity for any Wirral based Liverpool supporters to come to Prenton Park and watch some of their talented youngsters in action."

John McMahon, Shrewsbury Town assistant manager

Liverpool's Reserve Team Manager John McMahon added........

"I'm delighted we've been able to come to this arrangement with Tranmere Rovers.  I spent eight very happy years working at Tranmere, it is a great club with great facilities and I hope we will see some good results for the Liverpool Reserves."

Liverpool's Reserves will play ten home League matches during the season which will all be played in midweek with evening kick offs and as soon as the Reserve fixtures are announced, they will appear on the Official Websites of both Clubs as well as right here on Total Tranmere.

Early reports suggest that Rovers will play their home Reserve games at Cammell Laird's Kirklands Ground this coming season but this is yet to be confirmed by the Club.

Is this a Good or Bad thing for the Club?

I imagine Liverpool will pay us to play there for a start so that can only be good (although obviously we will have to pay Lairds something to use their Ground as well).

Thoughts?

It's not an extra 10 games though because our reserves aren't playing their. People keep saying about gate money etc but, if their is profit from it after taking away running costs, do the profits go to TRFC or LFC?

we wouldn't agree to it if it's going to cost us so stop worrying on that front. I think its a bit stupid we have one of the worst pitches in the league as it is! However the extra income regardless of how small is welcome and more importantly our connections and relationship with liverpool will have improved and the fact their reserves spend half their time over here will put them at ease if the club suggest coming on loan to us for a bit of fitness an experience..
