Tranmere were dealt a major blow today with the news that Chris Greenacre could be out of action for almost three quarters of the remaining campaign after damaging his foot.
It's reported that the striker, who has been out of action with a back injury since before Christmas has now damaged a bone in his foot and ruptured a tendon meaning he could be absent until March, a spell of around two months.
With Rovers struggling to get goals from the strikers already and with Craig Curran also fighting to get fit for the remainder of the campaign, it seems inevitable now that a striker will be brought in during the rest of the January transfer window.
Rovers have Bas Savage and Terry Gornell available and although Ian Moore has been playing on the wing he is also a striker but Ronnie Moore may decide he needs further options in the shape of a loan deal.
Speaking to Tranmere World, Ronnie said....
"Greeny has done a tendon in his foot, so he will be in a cast for four weeks and it will be six to eight weeks before he is back and able to play."
"Terry Gornell picked up concussion at Hereford and couldn't play against Walsall, but he is ok now. We're waiting on Craig Curran, he's going to step up his training today with Les. We thought it might be three or four weeks, but with a bit of luck it might be ten days."
Speaking about the postponed game at Colchester and looking ahead to Saturday's game at home to Peterborough, Moore added....
"Sometimes it can be a blessing. We've had an awful lot of games in a short time, and we're hopeful the little break will benefit us. It'll be a great game, we've already had some tremendous games against them this season."
"I hope we can get a decent crowd in here because we need it. When the crowd get behind us they are a great help. There's been nothing in the games between us so far, we've probably been the best side in two of the games and they edged it here."
"I think the Wirral public need to come and watch this as it's a big one. It's a game we need to win and it's a game we'll try to win."
