Tranmere Rovers have announced that they are giving a special VAT discount to supporters in January if they attend the home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday 20th December in Coca-Cola League One.

Chief Executive Mick Horton said..........

"We are pleased to offer our supporters a bumper VAT ticket discount in January."

"For smaller clubs reducing ticket prices is difficult as a large proportion of supporters pay cash on the turnstiles.  We need admission to be in whole pounds or fifty pences so it is easy to give change, otherwise the time to check money and give change to supporters would massively increase."

"This would increase the time it takes to get into the ground, something we know supporters are keen to avoid.  18 of the 24 League One clubs have not announced changes to ticket prices, presumably because of similar difficulties."

"If the Club reduced ticket prices for the VAT reduction at a standard category B match, Adult admission in the Kop would be reduced by 34p, Young Persons and Seniors admission would be reduced by 18p and Junior admission would be reduced by 11p."

"Cash would be difficult to manage with these unusual prices and we're sure supporters understand it would be problematic on a match by match basis. However, we decided to give the benefit of the discount to supporters up front in a lump sum rather than on a match by match basis."

"We want to give the savings to our supporters and we will be giving special VAT buster vouchers out to supporters either buying match tickets or paying cash on the turnstiles for the Brighton & Hove Albion game on Saturday 20th December."

"The discount vouchers we are offering are 14 times more than the match reduction - based on the number of home league games remaining. But supporters only need to come to the Brighton game to get the full discount, so it is could be beneficial to supporters rather than offering it on a match by match basis."

"Supporters buying tickets in advance for the Brighton match will receive a voucher at the time of purchase. Those paying cash on the turnstiles will receive a voucher at the time of entry to the ground. Adults will receive a £5 discount voucher, Young Persons and Seniors £3 and Juniors £1.50.

"We're proud to be the best value for money family club in the region and this is yet another example of our continuing commitment to affordable prices."

"We are, of course, reducing all prices on goods subject to VAT in the Club Shop, on functions and on sponsorship packages and passing the savings on to our supporters."

Supporters can then use the voucher against the purchase of a home Coca-Cola League One match ticket in January 2009. That includes matches against Peterborough United, Carlisle United or Stockport County."

"The voucher can be either presented at the Ticket Office before kick off to obtain a discounted match ticket or at the turnstiles for discounted entry to one of the games."

"That would make admission for Adults at the Stockport or Peterborough matches from only £11, Young Persons and Seniors admission from just £5.50 and Junior admission from as little as £3.50."

"The Club has already paid the higher rate of VAT on season tickets purchased during the summer, but we are able to reduce the prices on our half season tickets which are now on sale."

Tranmere are also offering existing season ticket holders the opportunity to bring a friend or family member for half price for the Walsall game on Sunday 28th December.
