P'boro U Vs Tranmere R
F.A Cup Second Round Tie from London Road
![]()
Just four days after seeing off high flying Scunthorpe 2-0 at Prenton Park in League One, Tranmere Rovers face a completely different test in the form of Darren Ferguson's men from Peterborough United.
In the first round, Tranmere needed two bits at the cherry to overcome an Accrington Stanley side sitting mid table in League Two. Sentanta Sports even covered the replay live at Prenton Park which proved to be more entertaining than the first and the deadlock was finally broken when Chris Shuker struck home.
When the draw was made for the Second round not to many people were jumping out of their seats at seeing the sight of the Posh once more. There rise from the basement has been rapid, accumilating in them sitting in a play off spot in the league and are unbeaten in there last 14 games in all competitions.
Peterborough of been have some Hoodoo over Rovers in the last couple of years being drawn against them in F.A Cup back in both 2004 & 2006, each time the team from Northamptonshire came out on top with the latter being a 2-1 victory at Prenton Park.
In the only league meeting so far this season at the end of September, Tranmere looked to have cruised to a 2-0 win thanks to a brace from Chris Greenacre in the first half. However the Posh men thought their way back into the game and levelled the score at 2-2 in the last 10 minutes with a bullet header from loanee Zakuani.
At home Peterborough have made themselves a robust proposition to break down losing only two games all season at London Road. Tranmere on the road this season have been solid and difficult to beat, getting some fantastic results at Carlisle and Huddersfield to name a few. They are a very offensive team but do tend to leave it exposed at the back during some periods of the game so this is something the strikers can look at. One player that Tranmere much watch out for is Craig - Mackail Smith who has a hit a purple patch of late and already knows what it is like to score against Rovers this season.
We are sure to get a decent turnout from the Super White Army this weekend and with a majority of our Southern based fans joining the game too it's sure to be a feisty encounter. If Rovers want to the win the game outright on the day then they will have to stifle the home crowd and if they do go infront it's crucial they keep their concentration right through to the very end.
Tranmere Team News
Ronnie Moore will have loan duo's John Johnson from Middlesborough & Mark Wilson from Doncaster ineligable after they were refused permission to play. After last weeks selection crisis, the gaffer can welcome back Steve Jennings and Antony Kay back in to midfield after recent suspensions. Chris Shuker(flu), Craig Curran (stomach injury) are definate absentees while Chris Greenacre (back) is a doubt for the game.
