Tranmere Rovers v Scunthorpe Utd Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
November 24 2008
For those who are unable to go to the home game against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night, here is your platform for discussing the events of the evening and the build up to it pre-match as well as any other League One games that may affect Rovers in the League.
Scunthorpe United Match Discussion Thread

At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can.  One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.

As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be providing Match Discussion Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.

Tranmere are of course playing at at home to Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening in Coca-Cola League One so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on and even discuss the team news and build up to the game beforehand too?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.  Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.

You could also use this thread to discuss other League One games too as Rovers look to get back to winning ways on the road after the defeat at MK Dons in their last road trip.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Tranmere Rovers v Scunthorpe Utd Match Discussion

Not a bad game but I have to say that Scunthorpe looked extremely average and won't remain up there if they play like that too often.

They made us look good I felt rather than us making them look bad.

Apparently some of their fans seems to think that the challenge on Coyne was a legitimate one.

Whether we go back to 4-5-1 on Saturday remains to be seen of course but I thought the 4-4-2 was good again last night.

The defence looked excellent once more whilst Wilson was OK but not as good as he was at Yeovil.

Gornell and Savage both worked hard too. Terry should probably have taken his first half or at least made contact but I guess on his first appearance he can be excused that and as Matt said he had a decent enough game.

I also though Sonko had a decent game too before going off injured.

Could be a good sign ahead of the JPT semi-final, if we can make them look ordinary at our ground with a few players in the squad recovering from man-flu, then we should be able to beat them at their place with a similar side.
I must admit, i was pleased with the input from Gornell tonight, shame that the new lad wasn't given a small run-out towards the end, it's a bit harsh on Danny Holmes but I just hope that JJ will be good enough at creating attacks as Shotton has been, Wilson impressed me though last night, looked comfortable on the ball, played a couple of decent balls into the likes of Moore and Gornell, I would prefer him in the squad to Jenno on the form he has shown.

Let's hope that we can do the job against the Posh, wouldn't mind another replay if we can't win on the night, just want us in the hat at least for the 3rd round (it's about time we had a trip to Old Trafford I think grinning smiley )

sub to start with that challange on coyne was a legit tackle he got some of the ball you heard it!

good game and a good solid performance again!

goodison comes back in and we get a clean sheet no coincidence threr

shotton played well going forward and got a good gooal as did sonko who looked dangerous all night

some of chorleys decisons tonight i.e passing where ludicras and set the tone in midfield where kay and wilson lost to much of the ball

savage caused them numerous problms upfront and was a nuisance all night

play like that on saturday and we good fall short, we need to be a lot tighter at the back

Chorley, apart from the mistake, was better than Goodison yet again in my opinion.

As for the challenge on Coyne, it's been seen many times before that you can't make tackles like that on a Keeper.

I feel that if anything, Keepers are over-protected by referees at times but it can't be one rule one day and a different one the next so the foul was given as it would have been at other games too.

It was an OK performance against a surprisingly poor side and as you say Dani the same again on Saturday would see us struggle against a side unbeaten in ages and probably the in-form side in League One.

The first 25 minutes especially last night we played absolutely fantastic, you couldn't fault any of them.

However 15 mins both sides of half time they got back into the game but Shottons goal killed them off.
