Yeovil Town v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
November 21 2008
For those who are unable to go to the game against Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Saturday, here is your platform for discussing the events of the afternoon as the match goes on, as well as any other League One games that may affect Rovers in the League.
Yeovil Town Match Discussion Thread

At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can.  One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.

As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be providing Match Discussion Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.

Tranmere are of course playing at away at Yeovil Town tomorrow in Coca-Cola League One so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.  Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.

You could also use this thread to discuss other League One games too as Rovers look to get back to winning ways on the road after the defeat at MK Dons in their last road trip.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Yeovil Town v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion

To be hoest, what else could we expect but a defeat, with such a disrupted side out? Both captains missing, no Jenno, Shotton or Georgie, plus players out with flu all week.

All I can say is, having not seen the game, I'm delighted Danny finally got his debut, about four months too late really, and it's excellent that Cresswell got on again. He is showing the manager he deserves a place and Ronnie is picking him.

At least lots of players will be back for Tuesday.

Yeah I have to agree with Matt completely, no matter how good the replacements might have been they have had next to no time to gel with eachother. I'm not too sure what the purpose of bringing Wilson in on loan is the more I think about it. Surely with Ahmed's loan due to end shortly and Paul Henry available, Kay only suspended for one game, Edds available etc it seems a little bit of a panic loan signing to be honest. It is good to see some of the youngsters get a chance.

It was hard to endure this football mess and the biting cold in Yeovil. Shukes, Moore and Greenacre were all disappointing and perhaps much less of a surprise, the midfield didn't work at all.

Yeovil are no world beaters but had little trouble scything through the open spaces. They were unfortunate not to have won by three or four goals. Our defence was beaten all ends up on the two occasions we were saved by the post.

Altogether a horrid afternoon.

I have to disagree I'm afraid.

Yes we had key Players out and new Players in but the ones who failed to perform were the ones who have played more regularly and quite honestly it was the most gutless performance I've seen from Tranmere for a long time.

The game itself was perhaps not even as bad as say Accrington away and home recently but we had a five man midfield with only player doing anything (the outstanding Mark Wilson who was my Man of the Match).

Edds, Shuker, Moore and Barnett (two of whom, had been ill prior to travelling) all looked uninterested and once again Savage showed his inability to play alone in the 4-5-1.

By half-time even I was praying for a change to 4-4-2 (which he did do) and for those criticising Ronnie Moore on other Forums I would say there was very little he could do yesterday.

To me it was all down to effort (stepped up in the second half after a team-talk no doubt) and there was hardly any of it.

Coyne 7 - Made a couple of great stops and helpless for the goal.

Holmes 7 - Gave the effort as you would expect for someone who wants to play for the Club - not a bad debut.

Antwi 8 - His best performance by far and looks every bit a decent centre-back.

Chorley 7 - Won everything in the air as usual and seemed to take to the captains role well.

Taylor 5 - Another poor performance from the left-back.

Shuker 4 - Did little to copy his recent form and wouldn't get into the game.

Wilson 9 - Man of the Match just ahead of Antwi. Great touch, great passing range and surely a pass completion rate of at least 90% if not more.

Edds 2 - Would be the World Champion at trying to run but not succeeding and I don't remember a single tackle or pass of note - headed wide when easier to score.

Barnett 5 - A little livelier second half but looked uninterested and lazy.

Moore 4 - Had been ill like Edds but didn't get into the game. Have been one of his biggest fans this season but nothing positive from yesterday.

Savage 6 - A higher mark purely for his improvement once Greenacre came on alongside him in the 4-4-2. First half he failed to win anything in the air and was sloppy with the ball.

Subs:

Greenacre 6 - The 4-4-2 worked much better but Chrissy should probably have buried our best chance of the game depsite if falling awkwardly for him.

Sonko 5 - A quiet and ineffective game but the change to 4-4-2 brought more postive results perfromance wise for the team.

Cresswell 6 - Unfair to judge Cressa as he barely had the ball. When he did he distributed well.

Will just add that Yeovil are the worst team for long ball that I have seen this season.

On to Tuesday then and hopefully some players back and a better performance all round.

We didn't lose a position in the League so I'm told so at least that's something anyway. Best to put this behind us and move on....UP THE WHITES!!!

Interesting and good post there Sub.

8 points of a play-off place, to be honest i'm not really botherd about are league position as long as we don't go down, the JPT Trophy is the one im looking forward to and are only realistic chance of success.

Having read it back I realise it all sounds negative and although I'm negative at the games sometimes I'm usually always ready to look for the positives by the time I come to post on here.

This time however I just can't do it, even after a nights sleep.

In this case I really don't blame Ronnie, he made changes at half time, he changed the formation at half time, if the players didn't perform that's not really his fault. I am shocked Edds is in the team week in week out as he really hasn't impressed me at all this season, I honestly believe we have better youngsters that just aren't getting a look in, if it wasn't for his versatility he wouldn't be at the club I'm sure. However, versatility counts for little if he isnt very good in the first place. I can't wait for the likes of Kay, Jenno, Goodison etc to be back, they tend not to let the standards of the others slip generally speaking.

Good analysis sub!

The thing with barnett is that he has come from a premiership acadmey, so he will have spent all of his career flicking and knocking the ball about without too much effort because hee will have had the best players around him. He just needs to get used to the league one style where he has to put that extra bit of effort in.

I think cresswell is better player than andy taylor and should be starting ahead of him !

Posative news about antwi though

Edds, Chorley and Moore have had flu all week and haven't trained, I'm not surprised they were awful.

Flu? Flu? Footballer flu maybe but real flu - you must be joking. If you get flu you are out of action for a fortnight and still feel shaky after that.

I agree otherwise with the postings. We were let down by the players who hold regular places in the side.

as i have said in the past the best is yet to come from barnett he had not played a lot of reserve games at liverpool so this is a step up he has to make, it will take a while but that might not be good for the team but if he does not play he cant learn and ronnie must see somthing in him because he subs other players even when he is not having a good game just lets see how he gets on tuesday if he plays with jenno still suspended, and as for the game to many rushed passes they all just need to play it simple and easy and not go for the hollywood 40 yard pass thats easy for me to say haha

Easy to say yeah but I agree with you to be honest.

The passing was sloppy to say the least throughout the game (with Wilson the exception),

Interesting to read Ronnie's post-match comments on the Tranmere website compared to what he said in the Radio Merseyside interview on the BBC Football site.

Just look at those contradictory headlines!

Yeah Ste!

Looks to me like the BBC have interpreted Ronnie's Comments in the way they wanted to in order to make a story!
