Coca-Cola League One at Huish Park

After a week of Cup action and an entertaining home League game against Southend United last Saturday, Rovers travel one of the furthest distances possible for them in League One with Yeovil the destination on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the entertainment value cooked up at Prenton Park last weekend, Rovers fans will still be regretting the fact that their side could (and should) have won the game, particularly based on their first half display.

Instead they had to settle for a draw of course but the game had much more of an effect on tomorrow's game than most Rovers fans could have imagined.  Bookings for Antony Kay and Ryan Shotton and two yellow cards for Steven Jennings have ruled all three out of this away trip.

Tranmere go into the game having never lost to Yeovil in all six League meetings ever since Yeovil were promoted to League One.

The three games at Prenton Park over the past three seasons have all ended in wins for Rovers, the best of which being a 4-1 win in December 2005 in the first ever meeting of the two sides.

At Huish Park, there have been two draws either side of a 2-0 win when Chris Shuker scored both goals in February 2007 whilst last season was that well remembered goal by Steve Davies in the fourth minute of injury time to level the scores at 1-1 and earn Rovers a precious point - a goal which turned out to be his last for Rovers.

So far this season, the Glovers have won just one game at home in the League whilst Rovers have of course lost just three on the road and Russell Slade's men go into the game on the back of a 5-0 thrashing at Stockport County in the FA Cup in midweek albeit after having to play for 75 minutes with ten men and missing a penalty prior to the sending off.

With Yeovil difficult to access by train from Liverpool, even with a Saturday afternoon kick-off, there are sure to be less Rovers fans in attendance than in some other southern games but those who are there will be getting behind the lads and hoping what will probably be a makeshift side can earn a point or three.

Tranmere Team News

Ronnie Moore has a major selection headache for the trip to Somerset with injury, illness and suspension all affecting the size of the squad of players available.

After last week's card spree at home to Southend United, Rovers are without Steven Jennings, Ryan Shotton and Antony Kay through suspension whilst Ian Goodison and George O'Callaghan are both unavailable.

Craig Curran (stomach) will miss out again whilst Ben Chorley, Edrissa Sonko, Ian Moore and Gareth Edds all missed training on Thursday with flu and may be doubts to take part in the game.

New loan signing Mark Wilson from Doncaster Rovers is likely to start in central midfield.

I suppose it was only to be expected that we should be so dreadful with so many key players missing. Nonetheless, it was hard to sit there watching such a footballing mess.

I don't get to see Rovers very often now I live in Bristol. This was my third this season and third pathetic defeat I've had to endure.

Most disappointing of all were the limp displays by players I know can do so much better, like Shuker, Moore and Greenacre. I had great hopes for Charlie Barnett but there was no glimmer of that talent today.

Of course, we had no midfield so an inspid Yeovil was able to make hay in the bitter weather. It was like a knife through butter. They had left our defence helpless on the two occasions they hit the post. They deserved to have scored then. They might have easily scored on two other occasions. The scoreline flattered us.

It was a sorry,sorry afternoon.
