Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park

Just under 48 hours after beating Accrington Stanley in an FA Cup replay to progress to the second round, Rovers face a another home game tomorrow against Southend United in Coca-Cola League One.

Around this time last season, Rovers recorded a memorable 2-1 victory away at the Shrimpers Roots Hall Stadium to move top of the League but this season Rovers in a slightly less encouraging position.

The game against Accrington on Thursday night made it six clean sheets in seven games for Rovers and two of them without the usually massive influence of Ian Goodison who has been out injured since hobbling off towards the end of the 0-0 away draw at Stockport County.

Southend have lost just two of their last six games home and away and have a similar record from their last six away games with two wins, two draws and two defeats on the road.

When the sides met at Prenton Park last season, it was Rovers final home game of the campaign and they won 1-0 thanks to an Antony Kay strike just at the start ofthe second half.

How much Thursday's game will affect Rovers' performance on Saturday will remain to be seen but two games in close proximity will not be a help especially as goal hero Chris Shuker limped off after scoring the winning goal and will have little time to recover before the visit of Southend.

Rovers will come up against former right-back loanee Simon Francis who impressed greatly during his spell at Rovers following the pre-transfer window departure of fans favourite Ryan Taylor to Premier League side Wigan Athletic.

If you are going to the game on Saturday, make sure you get behind the lads and enjoy the game - let's hope for three more vital home points ahead of next week's long trip to Yeovil.
