November 13 2008
We take a look ahead to tonights game as Tranmere play host to Accrington Stanley for the second time this season in the first round of the FA Cup for what will be the second meeting between the sides in little over two months following the earlier Johnstone’s Paint Trophy meeting in September.

After Saturday's dismal first attempt, both Rovers and Accrington Stanley have to try again on Thursday night to progress to a second round tie away at Peterborough United in a Cup replay that will be screened live to the nation through Setanta Sports.

The 0-0 game at the Fraser Eagle Stadium last weekend won't leave many fans looking forward to this re-match but one team has to make it through on the night whether it be after 90 minutes, 120 minutes or a penalty shoot-out so this time there really is everything to play for.

Last year of course, Rovers reached the third round of the FA Cup but failed to get the lucrative big money tie they craved, instead losing out to League Two side Hereford United over two matches after previously winning away at other League Two sides in Chesterfield and Bradford City.

Earlier this season, it was Edrissa Sonko's 49th minute strike that sent Rovers past Accrington in September in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as Rovers came up against former player John Mullin and his top-scorer brother Paul.

Once again though, Tranmere will not have to face their own striker Terry Gornell who is currently on loan at the Fraser Eagle Stadium but is not allowed to face his parent club under the terms of his loan deal.

Accrington have drawn their last three matches and have lost just once in their last six games although Rovers have gone one better than that by winning three, drawing two and losing one of their last six matches in all competitions.

Away from home, Stanley are unbeaten in three games but before that had a run of three straight defeats whilst at home Rovers are also unbeaten in three games in all competitions.

Tranmere Team News

Craig Curran (stomach) is unavailable for Rovers whilst Ian Goodison may be fit to return after missing two games through injury.

If Ronnie Moore decides to switch to 4-4-2 for the visit of Accrington Stanley, Chris Greenacre may partner Bas Savage upfront at the expense of Gareth Edds or Charlie Barnett.

Top-Scorers

Tranmere Rovers - Bas Savage, Chris Shuker and Ryan Shotton (4 Goals)

Accrington Stanley - Paul Mullin (5 Goals)
