A hat-trick from Charlie Barnett sealed an impressive 3-0 away win for Tranmere Reserves tonight against Rochdale at Rossendale FC's Dark Lane Ground.
Barnett opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute with a free-kick from distance which gave Rovers, managed once again by Shaun Garnett after the coach had a break in recent weeks, a 1-0 half-time lead.
Once the second half kicked off, the next goal was another 25 minutes in coming but it was the youngster who signed for Rovers in the summer after being released by Liverpool who was on target again in the 69th minute to make it 2-0 to Tranmere.
After firing into the top corner of the Dale goal from 20 yards, Barnett then completed his hat-trick three minutes later after he was fouled in the penalty area - picking himself up to convert the spot-kick from 12 yards for a comfortable Rovers win.
The Rovers side was a relatively young one with with only Barnett, Ahmed and Achterberg boasting any real first team experience.
Rovers lined up as follows.....
Achterberg
Holmes Taylor Waterfall Cresswell
Henry Barnett Ahmed
MacKreth Ashcroft Wilson
Subs: Corrigan (for Ashcroft 70) Fraughan, Kennedy, Denson, Jones
Reserve Team Coach Shaun Garnett said of the game.....
"It was a good performance from the lads. They played really well and deserved the win. We had a really young front three and the experience will have done them a lot of good."
