Tranmere have tonight confirmed the signing of trialist Charlie Barnett on a one-year contract following his successful and extremely impressive loan spell during Rovers' pre-season campaign so far.

The 19-year old developed through the Liverpool Academy and was a member of their FA Youth Cup winning side in 2006 alongside current Rovers' loanee Godwin Antwi.

Since beginning his trial at the Club back in July, Barnett has never failed to impress both in the centre and on the left hand side of the Rovers midfield and finally the fans hopes of him signing a permanent deal have been realized with today's news.

Charlie Barnett (centre) - Rover's latest Signing

Barnett is the seventh signing of the summer following the arrival of Gareth Edds, Edrissa Sonko, George O'Callaghan, Bas Savage, Luke Waterfall and Godwin Antwi at Prenton Park and speaking of his latest acquisition Ronnie Moore told the Official Tranmere Website.....

"This is a brilliant signing for the Club and it's one I'm very excited about.  Charlie has done really well in pre-season with us."

"He has all the Liverpool traditions - he's got great touch, vision and technique.  He'll bring a touch of artistry to the side and I'm sure he'll go a long way in the game, hopefully with Tranmere."

"It's nice to see the growing links between Tranmere and Liverpool.  The friendly against them was a great day for football on Merseyside and we've since signed two of their players."

"It's a good opportunity for any Wirral based Liverpool supporters to come to Prenton Park and watch some of their talented youngsters in action for Tranmere."

Charlie added.........

"I'm really happy to have signed. I just want to get started now and play some games."

"I've enjoyed my time here so far, the lads have been great with me and the coaching staff have helped me settle in."

Barnett will be available for Tranmere's pre-season friendly at Prenton Park against Blackpool on Saturday 2nd August, just a week before the new season kicks off at Swindon Town on August 9th.

Really chuffed about this, my only concern is he's only signed on a 1 yr deal, I would have hoped for at least 2!

Perhaps we offered him more, but he didn't want longer than a 1-year deal. Credit must be given to the club for bringing him in and then getting him signed up. But no, there is always negativity from somebody picking on something that they've done.

Yes, we'd have liked a longer contract, but at least we've got him, because he's going to be a hell of a lot better than other players in this league.

This is an excellent bit of business by the club, and a potentially excellent signing.

I agree with Mark, i hope that if he impresses we'll tie him to a long term contract.

I'm sure when the Davies tribunal is resolved we will learn our lesson.

The lad obviously realises his chance may be limited at L'pool and has moved for the good of his career and to get first team football. He will probably be playing out of his skin to attract the attention of bigger clubs.

So we are in a win win situation, we get the best out of him this season, and with a bit of luck, get a decent fee if he moves on....

I think he will do well for the club and will become a goal scoring centre mid if and when he gets his chance seen a few of the youth cup final games on sky v man u and he looked good then with his set pieces and his vision he seems to be taking all the corners in the warm up games and he might get on a few free kicks good luck to the lad
